KD in CA Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 At least Ross Perot had some charts and stuff. I thought the point of this was to explain his policies in depth and how he'd pay for them. Did he really need another fluff piece? Disappointing. He did talk about unfunded pensions though. Too bad he just showed the sad story instead of explaining the nuts and bolts of the problem and what he would do about it. You'd think it would be easy enough to force companies to fully fund post retirement benefits, but that might result in everyone realizing the dirty little secret that government and industry have allowed continued promises of unsustainable post-retirement benefits. And of course we can't break that bad news to the unions, or force that kind of p&l hit to corporate earnings. Underneath the covers, it's just more of the same.

According to who? Why would you say that? IMO, all he wanted to do was to appeal to the tens of millions of people who watch network television at 8 o'clock on weekdays and show them not to be scared that he's a communist, socialist, terrorist sympathizer, who will steal your money and ruin the country. I think people that didn't know much about him, and yes, there are still tens of millions, will (for the most) part love it.

Obama had 30 minutes to disprove the known fact that he's either going to raise everyone's taxes, balloon the national debt or go back on his campaign promises...swing and a miss! What a waste of money. He would have been better off giving those hard luck people the cash.

It's become conventional wisdom that in order to quell the economic crisis, swelling the debt is the one of most reasonable options.
Wacka Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 We'll it isn't on in the west. It will be on later (8 PM our time). I've got 2 hours to decide what else to watch.Probably Time warp on Discovery.

DC Tom Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Maybe you should watch and listen with an open mind. ...thus marking the first time anyone has said ANYTHING even remotely like that about an infomercial.
KD in CA Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 According to who? Why would you say that? According to his campaign. Described by the Obama campaign as a "program," the half-hour will present "the specifics of Obama's plans to turn the economy around and get the country back on track," according to a statement from campaign spokesman Nick Shapiro. Good grief...are you so insecure about this guy that you can't deal with any little criticism of him? IMO, all he wanted to do was to appeal to the tens of millions of people who watch network television at 8 o'clock on weekdays and show them not to be scared that he's a communist, socialist, terrorist sympathizer, who will steal your money and ruin the country. I think people that didn't know much about him, and yes, there are still tens of millions, will (for the most) part love it. Oh, I see. He wanted to present more fluffy nonsense that would appeal to dim bulbs who are glued to the crap on network TV every night. Thanks for clearing that up.
IDBillzFan Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ...thus marking the first time anyone has said ANYTHING even remotely like that about an infomercial. I'm kind a bummed. I sat there the whole time thinking I'd get an extra set of steak knives if I ordered right now.

1billsfan Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 You are aware that wingnuts like yourself were not Obama's target audience tonight, right? Correct, wingnuts like me and cult followers like you were not the target audience. His target audience was of course the undecided voters who proceeded to fall asleep after the first five minutes of the commercial. Like I said, a waste of an enormous amount of money. Much like what will happen to our tax dollars if he's elected.
