Bruce is the most obvious cinch. Rod Woodson---one of the all time greats--also a cinch. Shannon Sharpe...YES.

Bob Hayes will be inducted on the senior ballot. John Randle will be a close miss. The others on the list not super impressive--altho Centers has very good numbers.

Here's what I think of the 11 first ballot Hall of Famers.

Bruce Smith: Automatic 1st timer.

Rod Woodson: Automatic 1st timer.

Shannon Sharpe: Will get in, but is he a 1st timer?

Larry Centers: Has very good numbers and been to a few Pro Bowls. Might have to wait awhile.

Lincoln Kennedy: Was he really THAT good? IMO not HOF material.

John Randle: Very good early career, but inconsistent in later years. There are more deserving players at the moment.

Dana Stubblefield: Great with the 49'ers, then became a part of the "Washington Monuments" with the Skins. Not worthy.

Jessie Armstead: Very good LB, but again there are more worthy players at the moment.

Darren Woodson: He should be in. A very effective Safety, but could wait a 2 or 3 years.

Frank Wycheck: Questionable. Has surprisingly great numbers. Could have a long wait.

Brian Mitchell: Great returner, but special teams has still yet to get serious recognition from the HOF.

we pretty much agree...but I really think that Shannon Sharpe was one of the top 5 tight ends ever.So he should be a 1st balloter.

A list of guys who at one time or another played for the Bills my eyesight isn't that great and I may have missed one or two but these are the guys I found.

Bruce Smith

Andre Reed

Kent Hull

Fred Smerlas

Art Still

Cornelius Bennett

Chris Spielman

Darryl Talley

Steve Tasker

Ralph Wilson

I'm a little biased but I say yes to all.

Bruce Smith - Of course

Andre Reed - He better get in...such an under appreciation for this guy.

Kent Hull - Absolutely

Fred Smerlas - Never saw him play

Art Still - Ditto

Cornelius Bennett - Eh...close, but I don't think so

Chris Spielman - Nah...great player though

Darryl Talley - Don't think so

Steve Tasker - Yeah, why not? The guy was the best ever at what he did. My only counter argument would be, is he really more deserving than the best punter of all-time? No punters in HOF could mean no ST specialists.

Ralph Wilson - Yes

I'm a little biased but I say yes to all.

I brought this up in another thread but it's relevant here. If Bruce Smith and Andre Reed make the HOF the Bills will join an elite class of only ten teams that have drafted more than one HOFer in the same draft. If Darryl Talley goes in also he'll join Jim Kelly and that will make two drafts of two HOFer being selected by the Bills. (1983) Jim and Darryl and (1985) Bruce and Andre.

It would be amazingly cool to see Bruce and Andre go in together this year since they are from the same draft. Most likely won't happen but it would be very, very cool!!

1. (1936) Chicago Bears, Joe Stydahar, Danny Fortman. (1936 is the year of the very first draft)

(1965) Chicago Bears Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers.

2. (1945) Cleveland Rams Elroy Crazylegs Hirsch, Tom Fears.

3. (1947) New York Giants Tom Landry, Art Donavan.

4. (1953) Cleveland Browns Doug Atkins, who became Chuck Noll .

(1957) Cleveland Browns Jim Brown, Henry Jordan.

5. (1957) Philadelphia Eagles Tommy McDonald, Sonny Jurgensen.

6. (1958) Green Bay Packers Jim Taylor, Ray Nitschke.

7. (1963) KC Chiefs Buck Buchanan, Bobby Bell.

8. (1964) Washington Redskins. Charley Taylor, Paul Krause.

9. (1964) Dallas Cowboys Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach.

10. (1970) Pittsburgh Steelers Terry Bradshaw, Mel Blount.

(1974) Pittsburgh Steelers Lynn Swan, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, Mike Webster.

I'm already dreading his acceptance speech. The thought of that man speaking out loud for multiple, consecutive minutes is both scary and slightly unbelievable, IMO.

They might need to hand out translator headphones to the entire crowd like at a UN meeting.

I'd love to see Bruce and all other Bills' players protest the HOF voting and remove their names from the list until Ralph is voted in. It's an absolute disgrace to the NFL that Ralph is not in. Disgusting in fact.

It would never happen, but it'd be nice.

Posted

Al Davis has pissed off the league over and over again. I understand why he's not in but I can't think of a single reason Ralph isn't. He deserves to go in before he dies.

But, Al Davis is in the HOF. How disgraceful is that?

In 1992!! No less. Holy E. Schitt!

I just assumed nobody would be that dumb. Well you know what they say when you assume.

Putting the Sabol family in the Hall would be a good decision...growing up in the 60s and 70s, NFL Films was a driving factor in me becoming a pro football fan...the highlights, Facenda, the music...the Sabols made it all come together.

I believe they helped create a generation on NFL fans and their election to the game's highest individual honor is indeed fitting.
