Yes. It uses the audio/video feed from the cable/satellite box. It's the same connection used for your tv. It acts as if you are watching that TV, the user on the other end is able to change channels, watch DVR'd stuff as if they were in that room. It is really cool.

 

I have it hooked up to the box I use the least.

I have Direct TV and thats how it works. I don't know about cable.

 

It uses the video/audio feed from the convertor, just like the one that connects the tv.

So how can the user at the other end control it?

There are a couple of small cables with LED's on the end that are attached to the slingbox. You tape them to the cable box pointing at the RF port on the front of it and it acts just like the cable box remote control. The use on the other end uses the slingbox interface to control that cable box.

Believe me, it is incredibly easy to setup and use. It sounds harder than it is.
