I live about an hour from Cleveland so we get a lot of Browns coverage here. As noted in the above posts, there seems to be a particularly virulent form of this bacteria in the team's facilities. But most fans seem to think that it's easy to get rid of.

Not true.....the resistant forms are incredibly hard to eradicate, even in hospitals.

After more than 50 years of antibiotics use, nature has unfortunately adapted.

The problem is MRSA (Multi-drug Resistant Staph Aureus). Most antibiotic resistance genes occur on small circles of DNA in bacteria called plasmids. Plasmids can be traded between bacteria and even different closely related bacterial species. MRSA has accumulated several of these genes and Vancomycin is about the only one that works. There have been isolated cases of vancomycin-resistant MRSA.

The problem in Cleveland is probably guys with infections not telling the team and using the whirlpool.

According to a report I saw, the infections were picked up in various places, including Cleveland hospitals.

That's correct. Because of their resistance to the standard antibiotics, there's not much to stop them. Some hospitals have been flying in specialists from all over the country. Pretty nasty germs!

I must be heartless or mean spirited, but isn't anyone else glad he's out of the picture and really does not give a crap how bad his knee is and if he'll play again? I say good....injury is part of the game for which Bills fans know all too well about.

Yes, you are. It's fun to talk about hating the Pets* for cheating or because Bellysick is just a freaking  hole but we are talking about people. Brady never did anything dirty to hurt any players, that I'm aware of, and so I feel bad for him.

When someone like Wilfork does his dirty deeds a team, in most cases, will retaliate. In fact in his book (pg. 68) Steve Tasker said:

"Players have a code they abide by, and if you are out there trying to ruin someone's body (and therefore his livelihood) with dirty tactics, you can bet the mortgage that there will be retaliation."

Someone like Rodney Harrison or Vince Wilfork I have little pity for but Brady just QB'd his team. Was he in on the cheating or just fed the results of it isn't known but even if he did it's still not reason to want to see him hurt so bad his career is over.

No.

People can get serious, insidious bone infections sometimes. Amputations, infectious spread with horrible pain, and death. :wallbash:

Agreed, it's a person not just a player.

There is something going on in Cleveland that they don't seem willing to or care enough to look into.

Since my dad is about to have work done on his knee, I probably shouldn't comment on what I think about this situation. But really, the choice to go out to California doesn't seem like the best of moves. They've got some of the best out here in Boston. There wasn't going to be any question of the quality of the work out here.

It's not a matter of quality. It's an unfortunate occurrence. I'm sure the majority of ElAttrache's surgeries are uneventful, but this one happens to be high-profile.

I don't get how some people are happy about this.

It is FUN being a fan and rooting against Brady on the field.

Brady's CAREER is something that is real life and IMPORTANT.

Brady's HEALTH is even more IMPORTANT. An injury like that could linger might effect his everyday life. Can you imagine being a dad like Brady and not being able to play with your bastard child on the other side of the ocean? What about future bastard children? Will he even be able to play catch with them when he visits twice a year?

It is sad how some fans put fanhood about career and health.

I HOPE THEY HAVE TO AMPUTATE HIS LEG

I heard that Winslow was banging Bradys supermodel. Brady then goes to the Browns facility to confront Winslow. Finds him after practice and knees him in the jewels saying not to ever bring them to his old ladys house anymore. A day later Winslow has swollen nuts and Brady has 3 more surgeries and they both get staph!!!!

That is the only answer!

Maybe Gis got staph from riding a tractor, gave it to Winslow, and then transferred it to Brady when Brady kneed Winslow in the nads?

Wrong.

Winslow was giving Brady a lapdance, and he wasn't wearing panties. He was grinding all over brady's leg, and here we are today.

Okay.

I'm not calling "B.S.", but I'm calling "Let's try some decaf".

We all know what MRSA is, okay? And if we DON'T know what MRSA is, we should. Your description might be technically correct, but I would direct the reading public to the last sentence in your thread, which states that there have been:

ISOLATED

cases of vancomycin-resistant MRSA.

Jesus, don't get people thinking there's a goddamn epidemic of this stuff, okay? Because there's not. Please.

And where there IS MRSA in a hospital (and, therefore, I'm supposing, ANY medical facility, such as an athletic training facility), there is NO - REPEAT NO NO NO NO - ambiguity about it. It's pretty goddamn well marked out. Been into an isolated OR lately?

Please. Don't toss stuff like this out there, okay?

My wife is a nurse, & I can tell you it is a problem of epidemic proportions. There are a NUMBER of residents in EVERY ALF & nursing home in this country with MERSA ( WHICH IS VERY CONTAGIOUS). EVERYONE in the medical community is very concerned about this.

I was doing OK until crayonz had to go and mention the bastard children and Brady's semi-annual visits, and how they might not be able to play catch with Dad. Then I lost it.

Get back to me when you've re-read....and understood.... the definition of "epidemic", will you?

Reread my post. I said epidemic PROPORTIONS, I did not say it was an epidemic. YET. Talk to ANYONE in the medical field & they will tell you they are VERY concerned it may well become one.
