Steely Dan Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Can anyone remember the last time this happened. Most teams wait til the end of the year. I guess I don't get it. I would think it would hurt their abilities to hire a new HC in the offseason.

Steely Dan Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 Not to mention we're not even half way through the season. Then why'd you mention it?
DrDawkinstein Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 congrats to mike singletary. glad to see him get his shot. too bad it turned out to be worst case scenario.
Sisyphean Bills Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 The big surprise was Nolan lasted this long.
The Dean Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 congrats to mike singletary. glad to see him get his shot. too bad it turned out to be worst case scenario. Agreed. Singletary deserves the shot.
BrooklynBills Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I think in the St. Louis and San Francisco cases, they had potential candidates already on their staff, Jim Haslett and Mike Singleltary, respectively, and it's almost like an extended interview for them. Raiders' situation is pretty unique IMO.
buffaloboyinATL Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 marvin lewis should be next I'm guessing that Wade Phillips is next.
Steely Dan Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 I'm guessing that Wade Phillips is next. The problems with Dallas aren't his fault. He's the scapegoat.
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I'm guessing that Wade Phillips is next. That's a pretty safe bet.
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 The problems with Dallas aren't his fault. He's the scapegoat. I agree with that. Jerry will need a fall guy, and Wade is first in line.
JohninMinn. Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Don't forget Childress with the underachieving Vikings
Mark Vader Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 The big surprise was Nolan lasted this long. The 49'er fans and radio broadcasters have been calling for Nolan's firing for the last few weeks. They must be thrilled now. Apparently the Niners want to lock up Mike Singletary to a long term contract instead of this being an interim coach situation. Which would be a smart move. Although the best thing the Niners did was not give the head coaching job to Mike Martz.

I can't remember any time when a team said they were going to fire their coach "next week" because only then it would be convenient for them. Either do it or don't; don't fug around.
