IDBillzFan
You are a cold-hearted, narrow-minded, cynical man. Behind you? BEHIND You? I wasn't the one who used that analogy. Obama did. His comment to Joe the scab was this: "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they have a chance at success, too." Pay attention or leave the discussion alone.
meazza
I don't know what you claim on your tax returns, but if you are truthfully going to be paying more taxes under Obama's plan than you are now under Bush's, then there really aren't many people who are going to sympathize with your plight. Obviously the people who will be cashing in on the higher taxes won't sympathize, but they'll be laughing all the way to the "bank/liquor store". Johnny Coli
But it's MY $1400. I'm the one who took a chance. I'm the one who busted his ass to create a business, hire employees, pay them good salaries, give them a matching 401K, full health care for their entire family and keep that business alive for the past five years. And how dare YOU think that just because someone earns that kind of money that they should simply cough it up and give it to someone without making sure that the people who are getting it are absolutely, positively going to do something GOOD with it. That, to me, is the real obscenity. But hey, !@#$ Joe the scab, anyway, right? $1400 dollars. A person making 250k makes $1400 in three days. Three days. meazza
No one is knocking small businesses down. Less than 2% of small businesses will see an increase. A guy making a quarter million dollar profit bitching about an extra $1400 tax is pretty obscene. Actually, the wealthiest people tend to value their money a lot more than the poorest people. I think that's the reason they got their in the first place, because they spent their money wisely.
IDBillzFan
If you're as wealthy as your purport to be, then that 1400 should be a drop in the bucket. Spoken like a person who has no idea what he's talking about. My wealth is not tied to my income. It's tied to my life. You may learn that when you get older. Then again, you may not. And my money goes back into my business. I don''t expect you to understand that because all you see are zeros and commas.
Chilly
I missed the debate, so don't really know except in general terms what the "Joe the Plumber" issue is really about. But if the election has now come down to "Is Joe the Plumber really a plumber?, rather than "Did Joe the Plumber raise a valid point or not?", then we are all well and truly screwed. And I, for one, would like to thank you all for contributing to the national ass-!@#$ing, you stupid *****. Joe-the-plumber raised questions about Obama's tax policy on small businesses. Didn't really make a point, but rather stood as the "middle class guy looking to start a small business".

GG
Isn't it awesome to be cavalier with someone else's money. Hey Big Cat, your $1,400 bank account is triple the annual living wage of a rain forest dweller. Share the wealth.

meazza
You are a cold-hearted, narrow-minded, cynical man. Behind you? BEHIND You? I think you mean BELOW you. Why don't you just come right and say people who "aren't as good as you." Why don't you use someone besides yourself to understand how other people come up in this world? Most of them will just sit, doing nothing, and wait for this free money you vaguely allude to? What exactly is this free money you speak of? No seriously, EXACTLY. Exactly where do you think YOUR money would go under Obama's tax plan? Please tell me. Do you truly believe that Obama (or ANY politican for that matter) seeks to take your precious, hard earned money and drop it in bundles from helicopters into neighborhoods frothing over with alcoholic, crackhead baby makers? You've condescendingly scolded me for my youthful naivete, but honestly, sir, your view of the world is entirely self centered and you are incessantly skeptical of poor people in America, as if you've attained more money than them because they've been reckless and/or irresponsible. You remind of my dad when it comes to matters like these. And I've never had any reservations of calling HIM a jerk. Jerk. You know I live in an area where I pay 40% marginal tax rate (and I'm average income) and the wealthy pay 48-52%. 15% sales tax. As well, there are plenty of programs out their that take from me (the average Joe Public) and give to the poor. Studies show that most of this money is not allocated properly... Of course I also come from a family of immigrants who are pretty successful. You know what their plan was? Work 6-7 days a week, and not spend. So keep that in mind when I have sympathy for the average elitist dude who wants to keep his $ in his pocket. A lot of people are poor for a reason that is their own whether they admit it or not. I agree 100% with everything you just said, except the part about Joe Elist who votes with his wallet when our country is fighting two wars and doesn't have enough people with money (not wealth, money) to sustain itself. Alright. Just don't blindly assume that by taking from the higher income and giving to the lower income, you are going to remove the problem of poverty. Quebec is the perfect example of a wannabe Capitalist but in fact Socialist government. Of course someone who would have lived here his whole life would understand what crap it truly is. IDBillzFan
For a guy who doesn't consider wealth as measure of one's money you're certainly throwing quite a tantrum over a hypothetical 1400 dollar tax increase. Again, slowly this time, it's not the money. It's the mandate that I must take something I sacrificed for and give it to someone who gets it simply because, as Obama put it, they're behind me. If fact, I would ALMOST go so far as to say "I'll meet you in the middle. I'll give up the $1400 but I'm the one who gets to decide who gets it. Here's a kid in school, working two jobs to pay his tuition while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. I'll give HIM the money to pay for school." But that's not the way it works, and THAT is what bothers me. When you give free money to people who have no plans for their life, you only enable their lack of motivation. Why is everyone having such a hard time with that thinking?
