Wall St. Journal Article Claims Bills Fans are Some of the Worst Behav

Shirley, you've been to the swamp... and I'm not referring to the multitude of Bills' drunks in the crowd.

I have not. And after they tried to burn down Kenny's van on one of his previous trips, I'm not sure I'm interested.

I sat in the 300's on the Miami sideline 2 years ago and it was pretty piss poor. There were a few Dolphin fans who sat there and got abused. I dont know why they stayed they whole game. The yellow shirts must have chucked about 5 people from our section. All Bills fans.

To make it worse at half time i go to grab a beer and a kid who couldnt have been more than 13-14 was walking through the crowd wearing a Culpepper jersey until a circle formed around him and started pointing and chanting ASSH@LE.

That is classless. period. I live in South Florida and go to the Bills/fins game every year and have never encountered that. I have almost gotten into fights but someone always walks away. And of course there is trash talk. but its some what civil if thats possible.

I believe it goes on, I just do not see it in our section. First of all there is very rarely opposing fans there. Last game there was a few raider fans 4 or five rows down but they did not bother anyone, & noone bothered them. I am sure this kind of thing happens in the upper deck & endzones all the time.

Ive been to college games that are just as bad if not worse as well. Im a die hard Seminole fan and Hurricane fans are probably the worst sports fans out there.

A large % of the fans are just garbage. The whole "U" mentality is terrible. It breeds scum bags.

That is the thing. I do not put alot of stock into these polls or articles. You get 75-80K people in one place anywhere, you are going to get a few knuckleheads. This girl in my office used to live in knoxville & she went to the UT, & she claims that even though you get over 100K people @ Neyland Stadium, everybody gets along & it is nothing like bills games. Well I went to the Tenn/Georgia game last year & the abuse that these georgia fans were taking was 10xs worse then I have ever seen at the ralph. One guy actually threw his whole hot dog at this lady(she was kind of a loudmouth). Got her whole jersey splattered with ketchup & mustard. Security came & they escorted the three guys she was with, who were absolutely doing nothing but trying to watch their bulldogs getting taken behind the woodshed. But once again, at this game, I sat in the upperdeck corner & the cheap seats.

If my only Bills games had been in the "cheap seats," I'd probably agree with the writer. But since moving to the sidelines, can't say as I ever remember a fight in my current section. Some back-and-forth smack talk with opposing fans, sure, but nothing that remotely resembled some of the crap I saw during my only season in Section 221.

I will say this, though: while I haven't been on nearly as many road trips as some of you, I have visited a few other NFL stadiums ... and I have yet to see someone drink to the point of passing out at any of them.

The club box seats are better-behaved but at the same time, you have to get into the stadium.

I agree with this. It should not be acceptable behavior to get drunk and be a complete !@#$ to opposing fans. Have a drink, enjoy the game, cheer hard but be civil. Just so you know being a drunk !@#$ bills fan does not make you a great fan. It makes you an !@#$ who chears for the Bills. In Indy we razz opposing fans but in a way that is much like yu razz your best friends. We then tell these fans where go to dinner and what to do in the city. And you can think that is dumb but it is no wonder why we host events like the Final Four and Superbowl. Now 97% of fans in Buffalo are great fans but the 3% are giving true Bills fans a really bad name.

ZOUNDS!!!!! Pass the Grey Poupon Tibbs...I must divulge that that Peyton Worthington Manning fellow doth heave a fine spiral. I just wish those rogues would leave Marvin Benjamin Franklin Harrison alone with these trifle comments of car washeries.

I think the overall responses in this thread just go to illustrate my initial point: anecdotal evidence is anything but evidence.

Some people will say "I saw a fight where..." while other posts say "I have never seen a fight in my section...".

I would like to see some actual data to back up the claim from the author, thats all. It's a sweeping generalization with no substance.

So it must have been imposter fans from Indy who were throwing plastic beer bottles at us as we left the MNF game back in 2000. That was in the stadium as well, so please get off your high perch!

Yeah, and maybe your avatar is not much better. The Sabres franchised is jinxed as it is. Don't be a reason for not winning the cup. Passion does not mean avoiding all obvious and blatant rules of superstition.

My avatar does nothing to determine the outcome on the ice. Superstition? Whatever...

The Bills franchise has a big target it on it. It is more than talk that richer people and richer cities have been plotting to pull the franchise out of WNY regardless of how much fan support there is for the Bills. Yes, there are drunks in most every stadium. But when supposed neutral (or not) observers highlight The Ralph for "some of the worst fan behavior" it does not help the longevity of the franchise nor what happens on the field.

Charger fans will be at the game on Sunday. The reports from the Chargers last visit were consistent with the "some of the worst fan behavior" critique. The Bills fans needs to act smarter as people are starting to talk about the franchise as an afterthought even while the team is on the rise. Partying is fine, obnoxious and rude is starting to lose favor across the NFL. One of the last Bills games that I attended, some drunk guy was being helped up a ramp while unable to keep has trousers up. If we are going to drink, we need to drink like we have done it before.
