muggins
My fiancee and I will be going up to Buffalo for the game against the Jets on Nov 2, and I'm interested to get out and look at things in Buffalo. I realize it is probably like any other midwest city (I live in Lansing, MI) but there are probably some nice interesting restaurants etc. If I can't find enough to do in Buffalo she's going to bug me to go to Toronto, bleh. I would like to see Niagara Falls again (haven't been in forever, I was born in Buffalo but we didn't live there long). The Maid of the Mist probably is shut down for the year since it'll be so cold, right? Of course I'll want to go to the Ralph early to get tons of photos etc since I've never been. Probably go see Old Fort Niagara. We'll be there Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, any suggestions? Also where should I go to get info about tailgating for TBD? JoeFerguson
If you want to live like a true Buffalonian: Get a bucket of wings from Duff's. Wash them down with a container of Bison Chip Dip. Go for a hot dog at Ted's, then wash it down with an order of onion rings. Tell your fiance that if you were going to take her to Toronto you would have bought tickets to the Miami game. PromoTheRobot
A trip to Toronto while nice is not necessary if all you have is a weekend. There are plenty of nice restaurants in Buffalo. (And I'm not talking Mighty Taco, Duffs, or Louie's Texas Hots.) What you want to do is stay in these areas: 1) Elmwood Ave from Forrest south to Allen. 2) Allen Street 3) Chippawa Street. While there are nice restaurants elsewhere, these neighborhoods have the highest concentrations of cool bars, live music and decent cafes and eateries. Start the day at Mirror Lake next to Albright-Knox art gallery, then work your way south on Elmwood. Allen has a good mix of bars and cafes but Chippawa Street is "party central" in the city. If your girlfriend insists on some glitz and flash, make the 25-minute ride to Niagara Falls, Ontario. Great view of the Falls, lots of touristy crap on Clifton Hill. Even a couple of casinos if you're into that. And if she's a little kinky, take her to the Sundowner for his-n-hers lap dances. PTR

stuckincincy
it is not Mogadishu That's a very extreme comparison. Is it Detroit? Are these people young and unsuspecting as the young are before reality knocks them in the head and wises them up? Are they loaded with bucks, insulating them and affording them the nice food and the nice, safe spots?

The Senator
Hear me now, believe me later.... Stay here Eat here The combined romance & ambiance of those two venues will give you carte blanche the rest of the weekend. They are also equidistant from BuffTown's two hottest nitespot neighborhoods - the 'Chip-strip' & Allentown. The hotel concierge can fill-in all the blanks. Now since I have no idea what you and 'she-who-must-be-entertained' like to do, try some of these... Frank Lloyd Wright (if you like architecture, also check the links under 'news & events') Seneca Niagara Casino (slots, tables, entertainment, free 'booze while ya loose', & puts you close to the falls) Albright Knox (if you like Warhol, Jackson Pollock, et al - and 'Gusto At The Gallery' makes it free on Fridays) Niagara Wine Trail (who doesn't like wine?) Shanghai Red's (on the lake, and puts you close to the new erie harbor canal development site) RootFive ('way out' in Hamburg, but great food, on the lake too, & might run into a few Bills players here) Don't know when The Maid of the Mist stops sailing, but if it's still going when you're here, it is the ONLY way to see The Falls! BTW - if you want the best wings in Buffalo, it's Gabriel's Gate on Allen Street.
stuckincincy
hyperbole. Chippewa is Stockholm compared to Detroit Yet for stark, sensationalist purpose, you saw fit to mention Mogadishu. Back to the issue you tried to deflect - is Chippawa a safe place for out-of-towners who don't know the lay of the land? You don't live in Bflo. - why did you stick your nose into this in the first place? I don't live there either, since 1978 - I merely posed a question about folks being advised to go to a particular section of town. You make a valid point, SIC - Chippewa is as safe as any popular bar neighborhood in any city; just don't look for trouble, try to stay between Pearl St. & Delaware Ave., & remember that nothing much good happens on the sidewalks after 3 AM! stuckincincy
I could just tell you would be a ball of fun on a friday night. I sure was - when I was young and unknowing. As I aged - and was robbed, swindled, shoved around, cheated, lied to - and that was just the various governments with the power to jail me if I didn't dance when they said dance - let alone actions by my fellow citizens...I wised up.
