blzrul
Ha - we both started the same thread. Hey maybe dear old dad would have agreed. Hard to think that but then again the McCain meltdown we've witnessed is frankly something that is surprising many people. So who's to say. Albany,n.y.
I don't think he would be too upset. Buckley was an intellectual and if anything is causing him to spin, it was the nomination of the intellectually challenged Sarah Palin. Buckley would have much preferred being in a room and having a conversation with Obama & Biden over McCain & Palin.

He might even have made the same endorsement

StupidNation
No "real" conservative would ever endorse either of these lunatics. Exactly. Honest conservatives like Buchanan, Paul, Hagel, et al. would never endorse Obama or McInsane. As a matter of fact any conservative that supports Obama isn't a conservative. Oh, and blzrul, that comment that the father would endorse Obama is so ridiculous on it's face that you would have to reconsider your knowledge of politics. NEWSFLASH: Pat and sister Bay are creaming their jeans over McCain every night on the liberal Fox: MSNBC. What exactly is a "real" conservative? StupidNation
NEWSFLASH: Pat and sister Bay are creaming their jeans over McCain every night on the liberal Fox: MSNBC. What exactly is a "real" conservative? Bay is a neo-con, Pat is not, as he actually supported the campaign of Ron Paul. Pat's only reason is for abortion. I actually read his website and his books, something you might want to do. In a sound-byte world your point is corny, but in reality Buchanan's only push is because Palin is very pro-life because believes the future SCOTUS(s) will mean everything in the future in the fight against murder. He doesn't support McCain at all, he just hates Obama and sees this in the terms of ethics as the law of double effect.

I'm not sure Bill Buckley would be considered conservative in this day and age. You have to be a far right extremist or you're a liberal.
finknottle
You can't have it both ways. You can't paint McCain as a captive of the conservative wing, 8 more years, etc, denying the independent and bipartisan track record which has angered and alienated him from the conservative leadership, and then act surprised when they undermine him editorially and endorse his opponent. It's not an endorsement of Obama. It's a validation of the deep and festering wounds he took from his own party fighting them over Campaign Finance Reform, Ethics Reform, and Immigration Reform. They see McCain losing and 4 years of Obama to be the key to revitalization of their brand of conservativism.
Pine Barrens Mafia
I'm not sure Bill Buckley would be considered conservative in this day and age. You have to be a far right extremist or you're a liberal. And you'd know this how? Buckley would be a libertarian today. He'd be in the one refuge of true conservatism.
