elegantelliotoffen
This reminds me of 2004 when the left was flipping out over Bush and Cheney and calling them war criminals, demanding their impeachment and other stuff like that which ultimately turned off alot of independants and moderates. Fast forward to 2008 and McCain/Palin rallies are starting to look like lynch mobs! With McCain passing up the opportunity to level any tough personal shots in his first two debates and the very real prospect of an Obama presidency setting in, the sort of hard-core partisan activists who turn out for campaign events are venting in unusually personal terms."Terrorist!” one man screamed Monday at a New Mexico rally after McCain voiced the campaign’s new rhetorical staple aimed at raising doubts about the Illinois senator: “Who is the real Barack Obama?” "He's a damn liar!” yelled a woman Wednesday in Pennsylvania. "Get him. He's bad for our country." And Thursday, at a campaign town hall in Wisconsin, one Republican brought the crowd to their feet when he used his turn at the microphone to offer a soliloquy so impassioned it made the network news and earned extended play on Rush Limbaugh’s program.“I’m mad, I’m really mad!” the voter bellowed. “And what’s going to surprise ya, is it’s not the economy – it’s the socialists taking over our country.” After the crowd settled down he was back at it. “When you have an Obama, Pelosi and the rest of the hooligans up there gonna run this country, we gotta have our head examined!” Activists outside rallies openly talk about Obama as a terrorist, citing his name and purported ties to Islam in the fashion of the viral emails that have rocketed around the Internet for over a year now. Some of this activity is finding its way into the events, too. On Thursday, as one man in the audience asked a question about Obama’s associations, the crowd erupted in name-calling. "Obama Osama!" one woman called out. And twice this week, local officials have warmed up the crowd by railing against “Barack Hussein Obama.” Both times, McCain’s campaign has issued statements disavowing the use of the Democrat’s full name. A McCain aide said they tell individuals speaking before every event not to do so. “Sometimes people just do what they want,” explained the aide. PastaJoe
I'm beginning to think that McCain and the Repubs know he's going to lose, and at this point they figure they'll just try to motivate the conservative voters with anger so they come out and vote in congressional races to try and minimize their losses in the Congress. In the next debate I'd like Obama to go up and chestbump McCain and say, "I'm right here, look me in the eyes and say it to my face, bee-yaach!" blzrul
I wonder if McCain's aware that in MN, the GOP Senatorial candidate just made a big deal that he is unilaterally pulling his negative campaign ads? Seems that since McCain went negative it pissed everyone off and THIS guy's lost his big lead. Keep it up and Sen. Franken will follow Gov. Ventura as the MN contribution to wacky US politics. Of course that doesn't mean the GOP PACs will pull THEIR negative ads.
YellowLinesandArmadillos
Interestingly, McCain on the stump today admonished his supporters thou gritting his teeth that while they shouldn't temper their fervor the should do it respectfully, that Obama is an honorable man and if elected President, he will be a good one. Interesting, they are finally realizing their negative attacks are having more of an effect on McCain's reputation then turning Obama away from him. Duh Big Nut, you here that??? Your boy is losing! That being said, I respect McCain, whatever his motivation for coming out and stating that, should have done it sooner and let go of his Carl Rove protege's. He would have been better off showing leadership during this financial meltdown and staying above the fray, but he chose Palin and thought that running the same old, same old campaign... kinda like fighting the last war was a winning strategy. Too bad, I think it was against his better judgment, but it was an easy attractive solution for his campaign people, just not a winning one against Obama's calm demeanor. It was an old woman at a McCain town hall who called Obama an Arab and you could tell by the look on McCain's face that he knows that his campaign's rhetoric is getting out of hand. By the way, Obama is almost a 4 to 1 favorite on Intrade as we speak!

McCain regained a lot of the respect he lost from me with his actions today. Maybe he is still a man of honor. I want to see how this plays out over the next few days before I remove my "FEAR" avatar, but I am inclined to do it now. (Actually I need to find a Palin "FEAR" graphic. She's the scary one.) Just ask George W Bu..., uh nevermind GWB turned his base out while at the same time splitting independents with John Kerry and stealing 11% of Democrats.
