olivier in france Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Wrong, elitist liberals that live in the East and West coast as well as Chicago act elitist. Do you remember "!@#$ the South"? It was an e-mail that spread throughout the country. Let's not even get into their economic philosophies. They alienated a huge chunk of the electorate. Why? Because we were dumb ass red necks. Well that's what they said. Most moronic electorate move ever. Lets alienate 1/4 of the country. Why aren't those states in play? Oh they are ignorant rednecks. It has nothing to do with how we treated those morons. That kind of argumentation is the kind of socialist communist BS i hear all the time here... "Never alienate stupid people because they are a lot of them, never alienate the poor because they are just victims, never alienate uneducated people because they are victims too"! I'm an elitist and proud of it. Elitism is believing people should take their destiny in their hands and believe they can be better than they were yesterday.
Booster4324 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I did that Wal-Mart thing to needle you! Congrats, do it to a few other southerners. In my case, the vote is lost for other reasons, but you can lose others. Keep trying.
drnykterstein Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 heh, this is funny... A Day In The Life of Joe Conservative Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance -- now Joe gets it, too. He prepares his morning breakfast: bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment checks because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the taxpayer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved conservatives have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."
taterhill Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 45 million uninsured or so. Many of the people you are talking about are at least partially insured due to other programs, mainly children. So lets go with a conservative cost, say 300 per family and 5 to a family? I doubt the government can run it so cost effectively after the bribes, kickbacks, cronyism and such are settled, but what the hell. 9 million families multiplied by $300 and multiplied again by 12 months is $32,400,000,000. That is 32 billion a year, because the government will have to foot the bill. That is bare bones and very conservative. We are barely getting by as is. You want to chunk an extra 30+ billion on the budget? I am just talking about health care as a whole going to this hybrid type plan...
pBills Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I love how Cindy McCain says that Obama is running a dirty campaign. HAHAHAHAHA!!!
IDBillzFan Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Unless McCain has a video of Obama crapping burning dead babies onto an American flag, he my be the first man to lose in all 50 states. I think you mean all 57 states.
finknottle Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 p.s. health care is a "right"? This guy is a nut case. Life, liberty, health care paid for by for fellow citizens at gunpoint, and the pursuit of happiness. Yeah....that's brilliant. I find it insightfull that whenever they say it is a right - as Obama did in the debate and as his surrogates say in interviews - the statement is immediately followed by the explanation that 'we live in the richest country in the world, yada-yada-yada.' To me what this reveals subconsciously is the recognition that health care is not a mystical 'right' (in philosophical fantasy sense) so much as 'taking' is: there exists is an inalienable right for society to take from those who have and give to those who need. Whether we are talking about health care, food, housing, or better schools, if an analogous crisis came up I have no difficulty seeing Obama et al saying that there is a 'right' to good education or whatever, as long as they can finger somebody to pick up the tab.
ExiledInIllinois Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Congrats, do it to a few other southerners. In my case, the vote is lost for other reasons, but you can lose others. Keep trying. My God... Get some self-esteem Mr. Southerner... Really, if this is changing one's vote... We really are in deep do-do. It is like buying Tide or Skoal because your favorite driver has it on their car.
finknottle Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Agreed. There are some very important distinctions but what can't be ignored is what is best for the nation as a whole and defining what those rights mean. At one time, not too long ago, education was not considered a right. Yes, it costs untold billions now (and I'm sure many here can go on for thousands of posts of how it "sucks") but few Americans don't agree that basic education (K-12) shouldn't be a "right" and an excellent investment. Of course, not all take advantage but this nation was built on the concept. To great irony, the word 'right' has been eroded by the left to meaninglessness. There is a difference between what we think we strive to accomplish and what we consider a basic right. You and the entire country will agree that everybody ought to be able to find a job if they want one. But is it a right??? Should the government go beyond the policy of encouraging a healthy employment environment and actually guarantee employment? Should that right be extended to those who can't hold a job for good reason, such as chronic alcoholism or disruptive workplace temperment? How about financial security? Surely everybody would agree that raising the income levels for all americans is an important goal for the government, and that those in poverty should be lifted into the middle class. Should a 24k income become a right? And why exactly do you say that education has now become a right? Are those who opt out of the system denying their children their rights, or merely their education? And if it is a right, wouldn't any disparity in spending between school districts be an unequal application of those rights? That sounds pretty bad...
finknottle Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Did you complain when Palin said she wouldn't answer the questions? No, but the media sure did. I'm not expecting any comment from them on Obama's rebuttals.
StupidNation Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Yup, he's nuts and so are the vast majority of Americans who agree. I guess I'm nuts for thinking children have a right to health care. You're precisely the problem with the country. You don't know what a right is, how it is to be used, or how it fits into liberty. You can't say one has the right to liberty and health care by gunpoint. I know that might be hard for you to understand, but they are incompatible, no matter who votes for it.
IDBillzFan Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Ya wanna hear something funny? All day, every day, people here dissect all sides of the election. We're all so smart and clever and wise. We have links from the left and the right to support our cases, but in the end, here are your voters. On Howard Stern, Sal goes to Harlem and asks black voters who they are voting for. Please note that (1) this is Howard Stern, so the language is NSFW, (2) I know I don't like Stern, so get over yourself, and (3) I apologize if this has already been posted.

You realize they did the exact same thing when the Republican Convention was in NYC in 2004 and the GWB supporters sounded equally as stupid when Benjy interviewed them? It's a comedy show, why would they play interviews with the people who were intelligent and coherant?

In my never-ending effort to become a liberal, I try to get in step with the leftie take on things, and I so often forget that when someone makes fun of our party, the first thing we do is point out something stupid about the other party. Thanks for reminding me.

I am having problems with this slow connection. But... If it is Harlem... I the views can be on both ends, no? One end you probably have people voting for Obama or: On the other hand you have community leaders like Rev. Manning nastily denouncing Obama because Obama is a threat to the extortionism they practice. What is it about? If the video shows Obama supporters in a negative light... What is your view on this whole financial crisis?... Of course you do not agree with the Minnesota politician that claims this whole financial mess was caused by African-Americans. Or do you? You did say: "but in the end, here are your voters." Your above comment does ring with the tone that Palin has set: "He doesn't view America like we do." NewsFlash: There is a lot of stupidity through the whole socio-economic range in this country! You are pretty bright guy LA and seem like you are pretty well educated and well off, but all one has to look at is your love affair with A SPORT'S FIGURE : Jon Paul Losman... And yes, I am joking with you... Please don't take umbrage.

IDBillzFan Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I want to thank all the liberals for helping me understand how to address this. Thank you. I can't wait until we take over the White House and fix everything.
blzrul Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I Tivo'd the debate and watched most of it last night. Since the town hall is McCain's supposed strength I was looking forward to seeing and hearing it, also seeing how Obama held up considering the format is not supposed to be his best. I made the mistake of recording the CNN version, but I wanted hi-def ... those stupid score-keeping things on the side are ridiculous. However I did find the undecided voter reaction at the bottom somewhat interesting. McCain may have scored a few points - not many - but as the evening progressed he started to come across more and more like a bitter, somewhat doddering old man. It's obvious he would like to dance on Obama's grave.
