Being a Bills fan

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to take a second to tell you about a choice I made about 20 years ago, a choice that I made as a 10 year old kid.

Unlike many of the posters on here I have no ties to western New York. Not one. Yet I'm still a Bills fanatic. As a kid I spent most of my time outside playing football instead of watching it, I really knew very little about the NFL but as is common in SoFla you play football year round and you play regardless how many kids show up. Whenever another kid would ask me who my fav. team was I would just parrot back whoever won the SB that year, I was a band wagon kid as most kids whose parents don't watch football are. When I was about 10 however, I was grounded quite a bit and actually got to watch some NFL games. Through this I had the chance to see what the NFL was all about and I loved it. At about the same time there was an up and coming team named the Bills who where fun to watch. THIS was going to be my team, no questions about it I loved these guys. Well as unpopular as a choice that it was here in South Florida I was going to stick through it and love every second. I grew up with those Bills, I cried after the first 3 SB losses and I was heartbroken the day we released Reed, Bruce and Thurman and I was stunned for days after the MCM.

I was elated in 2001 when I found TBD and through the years made enough friends that were Bills fans that I almost feel as though I have an adopted city. I love the Buffalo Bills and I love their fans more. The way these kids have been playing this year has taken me back to being a kid and I love it, there are warm memories here. 20 years later I know that I made the right choice, that there is nothing like being a Buffalo Bills fan and I would not trade all four SB losses for a win if it meant I had to change my team, the team that I love.
