This QB rating system was instituted in 1973. It can be more difficult than quantum physics or finding out why anyone could possibly find Roseanne physically attractive.

This is very complicated and I think I have explained it well. If there are any questions post them and I'll clarify it for you.

First we have to start with a QB's stats from a game.

In this example our QB has:

16 completions from 24 attempts

300 total yards passing

For a 12.5 yards per attempt average (300 divided by 24 = 12.5)

2 TD's

Zero Int.'s.

Ok, now it gets complicated.

First we need to figure the completion percentage score. Don't ask me why these particular numbers are used. I have no idea. This is just how to figure this riddle out. A lot of the numbers have no explanation.

We take the completion %age and subtract 30.0. so, 66.7 - 30= 36.7. Now divide that by 20 and you get 1.835. (again don't ask me why these numbers are used they just are.)

Then figure out the TD percentage score. 2 divided by 24 = 8.3%. Now divide that by 5 and that = 1.66

Now the interception percentage score. (the int. %age score is figured by number of int.'s divided by number of attempts. So here we have 0 divided by 24 = 0) So take the int. %age and deduct it from 9.5. (9.5-0 =9.5) and then divide by 4 = 2.375.

Next figure the average gain score. (take the yardage number and divide by the number of attempts. (300 divided by 24 = 12.5.) Take 12.5 and deduct 3 which = 9.5. Then take 9.5 and divide by 4 and that = 2.375.

So completion percentage = 1.835

TD percentage = 1.66

Int. percentage = 2.375

Average gain score. = 2.375

Add these together and you get 8.245. Take 8.245 and divide by .06 and you get a QB rating of 137.4.

So take TE's numbers for the year so far. (This is prior to the Arizona game.)

119 attempts

78 completions

4 TD's

2 Int.'s

930 yards.

First figure the completion percentage. (completions divided by attempts) and subtract 30. Now divide by 20 and that will = the completion percentage score.

Second figure out TD percentage score. (Number of TD's divided by attempts for percentage) and then divide by 5.

Third figure out the interception score. (Number of interceptions divided by number of attempts and turn into a percentage.) Now deduct that number from 9.5 and divide by 4 and you have the interception percentage score.

Finally figure out the average gain score. (Yardage number divided by number of attempts.) Then deduct 3 and divide by 4 and that is the average yardage score.

Add those numbers together and divide by .06 and you get his QB score so far for the year.

Completion percentage score = 1.775

TD percentage score = .672

Interception percentage score = 2.025

Average gain score = 1.203

Divided by .06 = 94.5

My figure comes out to 94.5 and the official NFL site has it recorded as 93.5 so I think I made a mistake somewhere or maybe the NFL is wrong.

So now ya know! Memorize the formula and you'll be the smartest guy in the bar. :wallbash:

Nope, unfortunately you're wrong.

Completion % points = 1.777310924

Average Yds per Attp = 1.203781513

TD % = .672

INT % = 1.955

Total points = 5.608

Divided by 6 = 0.935 x 100 = 93.5 QB rating

Steely, it's easy to put this into an Excel spreadsheet, but I couldn't do the calcs in my head - especially at a bar! :worthy:

That's what I did an have it set up for two QBS.

It's not rocket surgery.

The toughest thing is to type in the correct data into the cells after the third or forth brew.

I don't like those online calculators - they do the same thing, but I'd rather use my own.

Cheers to you for doing the math though. :wallbash:

It's not divided by 6. It's divided by .06

The first example is perfect though! :worthy:

Nope, 6 - but then I multiply by 100. Same difference though.

Cheers! And don't forget to have one or two of these: :wallbash: this weekend!

If you do it over and over using QB stats from NFL.com you could eventually memorize it. Do it before the end of your first beer and with winning the bets you won't pay for another one. Chicks will be really impressed too! :wallbash:

If it's the same then I'm right Jack-Ass! :worthy: My way is easier!! :wallbash:

Only your INT percentage is off.

2.375 - (The raw INT % * .25)

Zero is the least points allowed, 2.375 is the maximum.

With Trent's numbers: 2 INTS in 199 attempts = 1.7%. (multiply that by .25 and subtract from 2.375)

2.375 - (1.7% * .25) =

2.375 - (.420) = 1.955 for the 1/3 of the points that eventually get divided by (6).

Now it's time for more of these!

 rocket surgery. What a maroon, you mean rocket science. :D

Nanker, can you explain how people breathe to Beerball? He has to carry around a post it note on his forehead to grab in emergency's.

Tanks!!

Just go to NFL.com. Call up a QB's game stats. All of the info is there as well as the answer to make sure you're doing it right. Some of the younger guys can probably pick it up after doing it a few dozen times. My brain aint what it used to be. Then they can go to bars and wow their friends and more importantly the babes!!
