JinVA Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Janes Addiction's version of ripple Blaspheme!!!!!
Chef Jim Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Blaspheme!!!!! I agree. There are a few songs that should only be sung by Jerry. Ripple is top of the list.
ExiledInIllinois Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I know it was a bigger one... But... Friend Off the Devil: I lit up from Reno I was trailed by 20 hounds Didn't get to sleep that night Till the morning came around I set out running but I'll take my time A friend of the Devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight I ran into the Devil, babe He loaned me twenty bills I spent that night in Utah In a cave up in the hills I set out running but I take my time A friend of the devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight I ran down to the levee But the Devil caught me there He took my twenty dollar bill And he vanished in the air I set out running but I take my time A friend of the Devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night First one's named sweet Anne Marie and she's my heart's delight Second one is prison, baby the sheriff's on my trail If he catches up with me I'll spend my life in jail Got a wife in Chino, babe And one in Cherokee First one says she's got my child But it don't look like me I set out running but I take my time A friend of the Devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night First one's named sweet Anne Marie and she's my heart's delight Second one is prison, baby the sheriff's on my trail If he catches up with me I'll spend my life in jail Got a wife in Chino, babe And one in Cherokee First one says she's got my child But it don't look like me I set out running but I take my time A friend of the Devil is a friend of mine If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight
Andrew in CA Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Dark Hollow is up there (couldn't find a dead version on youtube, so here's weir and keller williams playing it ), as is Bird Song (already mentioned) and Deal ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3GNbUQ1hyw...feature=related ), but Jack Straw takes the #1 spot for me ( ). It's one of my favorite songs by any band, for that matter.
Simon Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I use the screen name August West on some sights. I actually named my youngest boy August. The missus showed keen foresight in not allowing West as a middle name. And I'll give a shout-out to Brokedown Palace
JinVA Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Quite a lousy day. Order a pizza and listen to this.

ieatcrayonz Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I know it is not a Grateful Dead song but this thread reminded me. Eric Clapton wrote and performed "Tears in Heaven" just before he died. He knew he was going. Very sad. As for the Grateful Dead I don't really like them because of all the hippies but I do like the songs "Shakedown Street" and some others.
Buftex Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I know it is not a Grateful Dead song but this thread reminded me. Eric Clapton wrote and performed "Tears in Heaven" just before he died. He knew he was going. Very sad. As for the Grateful Dead I don't really like them because of all the hippies but I do like the songs "Shakedown Street" and some others. Eric Clapton died long before "Tears In Heaven". He had been dying for years, and then Dr Death, Phil Collins came along and euthenized him...don't you remember anything?
2020 Our Year For Sure Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Good thread, the Dead are fantastic. At the moment, Loser is probably my favorite song, but its always changing.
