House Aproves Financial Rescue Bill

Recommended Posts

Salon's War Room:

As of this post, the gavel has not yet come down, but the House of Representatives appears to have passed the bailout plan. The magic number for victory was 218 votes; right now, 255 members have voted in favor of the bailout, and 167 have voted against.

Update: The vote's now final, and the bill officially passed by a vote of 263-171. As for the partisan breakdown, 172 Democrats voted for the bailout. They were joined by 91 Republicans, just short of the 100 that Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly wanted to get to ensure that the bailout could be portrayed as bipartisan. 63 Democrats voted against, as did 108 Republicans.

See? There no obstacle that can't be overcome by tossing an extra $110 billion of pork onto the fire.

Good job Congress!

I bet the Puerto Rican rum producers are p-o'd. They only got a measly 190 million. And the strong connection of rum propping up Fannie/Ginnie Mae, hedge funds, 0% down paper that folks gleefuly flocked to, to pay off with their part-time job, cannot be overstated.

I just looked this up. PR doesn't have a voting member in the House. Who's vote did this buy? In importer? That seems starnge. Anyone know what is up with that?

Qui bono. Who in the House is likely a drunken fool?

Okay, so that doesn't exactly narrow it down...

A fact-finding tour to review problems of their people, paid for by a rum producer, is altruistic. Don't you think that an honorable, noble, all-expense-paid junket to such a nice vacation spot is a good use of taxpayer money?

Gee....isn't PR generally considered part of NYS for political/voting purposes?
