Big Turk Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 The call on the penalty was that Glover was given a personal foul for "falling with his full weight on the QB"... I am not sure how a 340 lb defensive lineman is supposed to fall with anything less than his full weight? Is he only supposed to put half his body on the QB so he only has 170 lbs on him? Perhaps he is only allowed 2/3 of his weight if he weighs more than 300 lbs? Is that a ridiculous call or what?? Can the NFL please stop making pansies out of the QBs?
JujuFish Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Uh, what? He was fouled for roughing the passer.
Big Turk Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 Uh, what? He was fouled for roughing the passer. the penalty was announced as "Falling with his full weight on the QB"
murra Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Uh, what? He was fouled for roughing the passer. Roughing the passer with 300+ pounds counts more against you than when you rough him with a linebacker.
JujuFish Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 the penalty was announced as "Falling with his full weight on the QB" It was announced as roughing the passer.
lets_go_bills Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 ROFL? I wasn't laughing at all. In fact I was scared half to death. Trent could've been hurt.
Big Turk Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 It was announced as roughing the passer. apparently when pressed on the issue, it was said the "full weight" thing was the reason...
marioc Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 To clarify, the ref clearly called a "roughing the passer" penalty, followed by a brief explanation which was when he said the defensive player "fell with his full weight" on the quarterback. It was basically an unnecessary roughness penalty, which when it's inflicted on the QB is considered "Roughing the passer". By giving the explanation, he is letting the home crowd know what exactly the guy did in his mind that was over the line. Inferred in his explanation is that the guy could've held back from landing on TE with his full body weight, but decided to try to hurt him and get away with it. Good call.

Big Turk Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 Did he give him the business too? That was a classic one... the downward punching motion and announcing he was getting a 15 yard penalty for "Giving him the business down there"
MRW Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Remember years back (think it was the year the Ravens won the Super Bowl) when Tony Siragusa barreled through the line and fell on top of Gannon, knocking him out of the game? Pretty sure it wasn't a penalty at the time but rules additions and extensions made it one in response to that play.
Spiderweb Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Did he give him the business too? Ah, the infamous Marty Lyons multiple punches laid on Kelly after Kelly was down.. 15 yards for giving him the business....
