John Adams
If (when) it hits the fan, I'm locked, loaded and ready to rock and roll. Out of my cold, dead hands. In all seriousness, DD was spot on in his suggestion that whether we are believers or not, this is a good time to pray for the future of our great nation. If not for your sake, then for the sake of our children. God Bless us all. I'm not religious but you can pray for me and my kids. I like being worshiped. I said "because they're nuts". Alicia Silverstone isn't exactly a picture of sanity.
SD Jarhead
I'm not religious but you can pray for me and my kids. I like being worshiped. With malice toward none, I pray for all of us and respect your views. I can live without all of the creature comforts, but without food and water you may change your views. Either way, I wish you well. Have a great weekend!

finknottle
Yes they are. Save a whale, kill a child. Like the Earth is in danger of running out of children? It's pretty easy to make more. Last time I checked there were more than we could feed, and adding 75 million a year (that's net). How are the whales doing? Will it be worth it to have them fall extinct forever so that we can squeeze in one more high-rise full of food-stamp recipients?

If not for your sake, then for the sake of our children. God Bless us all. Pray? God helps those who helps themselves...prayer on its own is an opiate - comforting to be sure but prayer alone is what you rely on as a last resort, not a first. It would seem to me that people who scream about citizens sitting around waiting for the government to fix things would not advocate sitting around asking God to do so. God has a whole lot more to worry about than 300 million idiots who've let our own goose be cooked. Maybe He's waiting for us to show a little gumption and shoulder some of the burden ourselves. Half the world goes to sleep either with an empty stomach or worry about how to survive the next day. We've got it good and if we want to keep it that way then we need to be more accountable, responsible and involved. And maybe just realize most of us have no IDEA what "suffering" means - and if we don't want to find out, we need to do something to prevent it. Well these are strange days indeed that we are living in. I actually agree with most all of what you wrote above. What are the odds? I fully agree that we are blessed beyond belief in this nation, that for some unknown reason those of us fortunate to live in this nation have won the birth lottery. As someone who has traveled to some of the poorest parts of the earth and seen what true poverty looks like (Somalia immediately comes to mind), we really have no right to complain. I pray regularly with my family to give thanks for all we have. Many here on this board find this objectionable for some reason, but that's their problem. At the end of the day though, I do pray that my children do not have to go through times like my Grandparents did during the depression or to a much lesser degree, than I did as a kid growing up in Buffalo in the 70's with parents who lost jobs when Bethlehem Steel closed. Unfortunately, I think we will see times like those in the immediate future. I've consciously tried not to post here too much lately due to my disgust with the overall tone of the season. I am by no means innocent of slinging crap, but even with the disagreements and sometimes disgust I feel reading some of the things here, I wish everyone well, and yes, pray that they and their loved ones survive and thrive through the tough times we are about to experience. FWIW, I wish you peace as well- even if I snipe a few rounds in once in awhile.

UBinVA
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory. 3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles. 1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. 2. The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved. 1. a political theory advocating state ownership of industry 2. an economic system based on state ownership of capital [ant: capitalism] An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government rather than by private enterprise, and in which cooperation rather than competition guides economic activity. There are many varieties of socialism. Some socialists tolerate capitalism, as long as the government maintains the dominant influence over the economy; others insist on an abolition of private enterprise. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/socialism Now do you understand the difference? yellowlinesandarmadillos Where are you? Cat got your tongue on the definition of Socialism? Pretty scary stuff IMO, but we're half way there anyway so lets go for the gusto and elect Obama. X. Benedict
There was no agreement. Only the dems were saying there was. Their "agreement" gives Billions to shady almost illegal groups. As Rush said "If it is so urgent , the dems have the votes to pass it right now. Why don't they?" It's because their plan is good for THEM AND THEIR CONTRIBUTORS and bad for THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. Let me get this straight....Rush is saying that the Democrats are to blame for the House Republicans walking out and not passing a Republican presidents bailout bill on their own. David H. Koresh.
