d_wag
MILLEN IS OUT! Posted by Mike Florio on September 24, 2008, 10:02 a.m. Less than an hour ago, yours truly told the Sports Junkies on WJFK radio in D.C. that Matt Millen will continue to run the Detroit Lions for as long as William Clay Ford Sr. owns the team. And, to no surprise, Millen has been fired. Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Millen is out. Per Glazer, the decision came on Tuesday night. It’s unclear whether Millen resigned or was fired. The timing of the move, coming a day after Bill Ford Jr. said that he’d fire Millen if he could makes us think that Millen might have decided to move on. Millen, who previously was a game analyst for FOX, became the president and G.M. of the team in 2001. The team generated a woeful record of 31-84 during seven-plus seasons. http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/
PastaJoe
FOXSports.com and WDFN (1130 AM) is reporting that the Lions have removed team president and GM Matt Millen from his post, ending one of the most criticized tenures in Detroit sports history. Millen was informed of the move last night during a late-night high-level meeting. This morning several people within the building confirmed that he had large packing boxes in his office. It is unclear if Millen was fired or removed himself from the equation but the news comes just days after Bill Ford, Jr. publicly stated he would have fired the GM if it was his decision but he lacked the authority to do so. http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID...ORTS01/80924031

nucci
Is your sig from last Sundays game thread by chance? Yes. That was a sample of some of the posts in the 1st half of the game. Funny and sad at the same time. Glad the players don't give up as fast as some fans do.
marauderswr80
That dude should have been fired 2 years ago. I feel bad for Lions fans. Hopefully things get better up their in Detroit for that fan base.

Glad the players don't give up as fast as some fans do. If the current Bills keep it up, all the new generation Bills fans will learn what we all loved about the 90s team...never give up, never turn off the TV, never leave the game until the final gun. There were so many great comebacks then. My favorite was when Nate Odomes blocked a Broncos field goal attempt in 1990. Cornelius Bennett returned it 80 yards, unleashing a run of 20 points in 77 seconds and leading to a 28-29 victory. they followed it with a big comeback against the Raiders the next week and eventually went to their first Super Bowl at the end of that season. In these days of the socialist NFL, where every dog gets its' day sooner or later, step back and see what an accomplishment it is to go 17 years with only one winning season and one playoff game. Kudos also due to the Card's owner, Bill Bidwell. Their only real rival is the Pirates, cruising towards their 18th consecutive losing season. That stretch of games was incredible. Denver beat the crap out of us that game. Nate's block was right in front of me and you could see Reeves so pissed as Bennett ran by. There wasn't talk back than that we should have lost. It was - what an incredible win. You're right. Have to educate the young ones on what it was like. That was incredible! Then Elway's first pass is tipped and picked by 'Hitman' and taken to the house. Then they blow the KR and start at their 5 and Bennett bursts in and causes and recovers a fumble and we score the next play. We actually had 3 straight comebacks. That one, the following Sunday night vs. the Raiders and after the bye vs. the Jets. We knew then we were on to something very special! Great times, man!
