DieHardFan Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Why do I need to enter a message to post a poll?
Kevbeau Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I voted for the premium membership for $5...although I'm cool with any sort of donation or mandatory cost. Five bucks is NOT a lot to ask of people for what this board gives back, especially to those of us not in WNY...and it gets me through the slow work days which is priceless.
Guest Guest Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I'll donate a server and bandwidth. It's worth a lot more than $5.00 How many meg's per month do you use Scott?
macaroni Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I say charge $5 for membership ............... but the board should charge $10 for membership to anybody who disagrees with my opinions ........ and charge $15 for people who have multiple opinions on the same topic ......... and charge $20 for people who change their opinions every week (this could cost you ICE) ...... and charge $25 for people with incorrect opinions ........ but then again those would be the same people whos opinions disagree with mine so I guess they get stuck paying $35.
Just Jack Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 You can put up all the polls you want, but what will happen is Scott will do what he feels like doing. So even if the majority would like the $5 membership fee, and Scott would like to keep it free, it'll stay free.

(not that he would... ) CW

I believe SDS is looking for the best solution for all. Are you?
theesir Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I would become a member at a meager $5, but would also be willing to make a larger volunteer doantion.
LabattBlue Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I would become a member at a meager $5, but would also be willing to make a larger volunteer doantion. 599 I'm willing to support any solution. $0 keep it the way it is and I'll go for a Super Mighty instead. $5 for a yearly membership. $10 for disabling anonymous posting. $20 to make ICE stop fence hopping. $30 to verify that there will never be another "horrible human being" thread etc.....

Mike in Syracuse Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Why don't we ake up a collection at the tailgate party? Maybe we could do a 50-50 raffle to raise money.
LabattBlue Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Rather than voting in a poll, I'd like to see responses from people who would NOT be willing to contribute $5 or more per year for posting privileges and why they are opposed to it.
Bledsoe1 Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I'll give you 50 right now if Scott keeps the Patsey trolls off the board. 694 Great idea!
BillnutinHouston Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I'm in for a $10 membership fee. A small price to pay. This would narrow the pool of posters somewhat, but when you think about it, do you even really want the ones who aren't willing to pay (a.k.a. "marginal" fans)?
Fan in Chicago Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Great idea! 734 Not really ! I enjoy it when they willingly come to get bashed on this board.
VABills Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Not really ! I enjoy it when they willingly come to get bashed on this board. 744 So are you willing to beat my bid to get rid of them?

I'll repost my response from there. I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that donations should be just that - donations. You don't get anything special for donating (except maybe your name on a donations page I guess). But I don't think it should be required. Yes, the regulars who are here would glady pay and that's great. However, one of the things that make the site cool IMHO is when rival fans come and post during the game week. We all hate the trolls, but there are plenty of knowledgable fans who find the site and talk good football during the week, and then leave when the game's over. If you require money to post, you're going to kill that and that would be a shame. I'm sure plenty of people would donate money just to keep the place going - I know I would - but making it a requirement to post seems a bit extreme IMHO. CW
