truth on hold Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Is Hardy behind on development? His 1st preseason game was promising but ever since it's been a slow decline of visibility, leading to today wherein he was invisible. What's up? I know today was great but we still need the benefits of a large WR.

Lurker Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I get the sense they're gonna bring him along slowly, using him in red zone situations until he gets more acclimated to the NFL.
lets_go_bills Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Yeah. I couldn't help but notice he was rarely inserted into the game. I think he'll be starting by mid-season though. But for now, they may opt to just use him when in the red zone or in multi-WR sets. But I wanted to see him contribute. He didn't contribute any stats.
truth on hold Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 Don't think we really needed him today, did you? No obviously not. But we will at some point if this team is going to take it to the next level. The coaches understand this, that's why they drafted him.
Huuuge Bills Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Reed played well, and Roscoe wasn't killing us. It seemed to me that in the preseaon that he wasn't up on all of his asignments (audibles, breaking off routes early ect.) Why put him out there at the end of the game and risk getting a ball picked? Let him sit and learn, this is a good thing IMO. No need to rush it.
DrDawkinstein Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 i saw a post on bb.com "worrying" about the lack of rookie presence you guys realize that this is a GOOD thing that we are not relying on rookies to have to make plays for us in their first start ever? right? Hardy and the rest of the guys will come along. when they are supposed to. for now, thanks to great play and lack of injuries, they have the LUXURY of learning.
ans4e64 Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 He needs to be in the game on 3rd downs and in the redzone. Otherwise, same personell as last year.
John Adams Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 He also has a nagging hammy. If they can keep winning while he gets it up to speed, I'm fine.
truth on hold Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 He also has a nagging hammy. If they can keep winning while he gets it up to speed, I'm fine. That makes more sense to me than "taking it slow working him in the system."
gobillsinytown Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 It's pretty rare for rookie receivers to make a big impact right away. There have been exceptions like Randy Moss, but most guys take about a year to really learn to make the proper reads at the line of scrimmage, and then the proper adjustments on the fly. But they could use him right away in the red zone.

Note that they are big WRs just like Hardy, so they have a size advantage that has nothing to do with being a rookie.
CosmicBills Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I've heard more than one report (including Chris Brown) that Hardy just doesn't know the playbook yet.

It's quite refreshing to not see rookie mistakes in game 1.
