SwampD
5) You can say that Trent was handed the game by his defense and special teams. To this I say....you are correct. You can say that Trent lacked some of his usual touch on some short passes. My answer? Right again. However, he chalked up yet another win in this early stage of his career. I am very impressed, and it is a pleasure to watch this kid develop. This is the only one I disagree with. He wasn't handed anything. And there were throws he made out in the flat that JP would have never made. Not to mention his deep ball to Evans(?) was absolutely pefrect. DCBongo
Ah, A post game post by Bill, its Football season again! I always appreciate your insights so thanks! And I have to give props to our D, they were great. No real cardiac moments, was this really the Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch
Gee, I wonder if Stroud may be a little bit fired up next week going back to Jax? Chambers looks like a solid backup lineman. Again have to give Bills FO credit for developing starters last year (can't think of his name the guard from Virgina??), now Chambers looks real solid too. Plus guys like Ellison. Granted only one game, but going up against pro bowler, for first start, he looked very good. That was what made Bills real good in early 90's all the late rounders who became significant players.
TPS
Couple more things about D and Stroud: - Kyle Williams had 1.5 sacks. Larry who? - Officially the D gave up 252 yards, but 100 came in the 4th quarter after the 34 - 10 lead.
KnightRider
Maybe it is because of last year, but the fact no one seemed to get too banged up seemed to stand out to me.
NicholasCal1
Edwards was efficient and did a great job after the miserable first half. Even during all the incompletes and pressured checkdowns, his biggest mistakes were being off target. No giant sack, fumble, or INT. He waited out his time till the defense let him make some plays. Totally unspectacular but highly efficient. As for your point about the O-Line, well, walker was totally invisible all day, which is exactly what you want your LT to be. Chambers, on paper, was totally outmatched, but he totally blew up patrick kerney all day long. The interior of the line was a little weak. Lynch had no holes to run through, especially on that first drive 3rd and short. With that said though, fowler played a good game. The bills were in shotgun a lot during the game and you have to give credit to the center for being able to snap the ball well, especially in the rain. Parrish... Um, this dude is a monster. I really wanted to see parrish in the offense more, but he's just fine as a 3rd or 4th WR and a returner specialist. That TD return was ridiculous. The defense... Well, where have you guys been for the past 10 years? the pre snap looks probably accounted for half of hasselbeck's crappy throws. They not only physically dominated, but they were mentally in a higher zone than the seahawks. There was no answer. Finally, I do know that the bills have always had trouble in florida during september, but I see no reason why we can't beat the jaguars. The bills are a changed team this year... A much better team than we've seen in years. great points. i couldn't believe what i was watching. jabare greer doesn't seem to show any reason to take him out in favor of mckelvin.they realy did have their mental A game today.i wish we had a beast of a tight end. VOR
- Officially the D gave up 252 yards, but 100 came in the 4th quarter after the 34 - 10 lead. Forget yards. The most important statistic is points given-up.
Dwight Drane
in the couple of threads i have perused, i dont think i have seen anyone call out Kiawaka(sp?)....sure the defense was awesome, but he was a monster out there.... He was always in position to make a play. Poz is always in position to almost make a play. Heck...with th ebuzz going on, Ellison is a smart kid and can be where he needs to be for the most part. Let's just cross our fingers that the whole team isn't crushed in the MASH unit again.
Dibs
At the game today, I couldn't help but notice Stroud pushing the pocket on several downs. He batted a pass down, got inside his man, and generally made backs take holes they wouldn't normally have. Plain and simple, he makes the others around him better. They even had him line up on the outside and upright. Kudos to Fewell and the defensive coaches for using him in several ways. Here's to hoping he makes Jacksonville regret their decision. What a difference a DT makes in a defense. I totally agree that Stroud makes a HUGE difference to the D. Let's not forget however that the additions of Mitchell, Poz & Simpson are also HUGE upgrades over last season as well......this D looks to have the makings of something special. RJ (not THAT RJ)
Another great list, Bill. This was such a fun afternoon, no? My only regret is that Lynch was one step out of bounds away from breaking a 97-yard TD run. We'll get 'em next time! Go Bills!!! 1) GREAT play by Whitner on the 3rd and 8 with approx. 7 minutes left in 2nd quarter. It cannot be over-emphasized. He made the tackle alone in the flat, and opened the door to the Parrish punt return. 2) I was impressed that a Seattle blocker (Sims?) was called for holding Stroud. You know why? Because although I am sure it happened, I can't clearly recall anybody needing to hold one of our DTs in 07. Either that or I am easy to impress. 3) Talk about responsibility! Poz calling signals after 3 starts? Naturally, he will grow more accustomed to this, and the defense will be even more efficient. 4) NOT trying to start a fight here about JP. He is a competitor, and I even felt a little sorry for him when the camera showed him. Still, he needs to shave. He looked like a homeless person on the sidelines. 6) Hats freaking off to Walker and Chambers. Even Fowler looked decent in the 2nd half. The announcers made a good point about the Jacksonville heat. Maybe there is no need to rush Peters next week, although a few plays would be cool too. 7) Sure, Trent made me nervous in the 1st half, but when he got that last pass off, a guy was all over him, he didn't panic, and we scored the 3. Watch the replay. 8) Denney, Schobel and Kelsay should take Stroud out to dinner. He was the biggest difference maker today imo. Take a bow AKC.....the DT position made the difference today, or so I think, and it was all about Stroud. 9) OK, that was the best execution of a fake FG I have ever seen, and it isn't close. I am still sitting here stunned. 10) Angelo who? 11) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BillsWatch
Don't forget Spencer Johnson. No do not forget him and he has not gotten many props. He and Denney made a very effective combination on several plays where it looked like there were more defenders than offenders but it was just the two of them. I wonder if the people (Mickey) who predicted Armageddon (Mickey) for Trent Edwards (Mickey) without Peters in the lineup (Mickey) will show up and take their medicine. By the way, anyone see Mickey?
