Obama's favorite mayor going to jail!!

Detroit's corrupt mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick pleads guilty to felony charges and will serve jail time. Hell, even fellow corrupt Democrat Eliott Spitzer wasn't this dirty -- he only used state police for illegal spying. This POS wrongly terminated police officers and then tried to use $8MM+ of taxpayer money as secret hush payments.

And, oh! Look look who is a huge fan of the 'hip-hop' mayor! None other than the man who insults honest small town mayors: Barack Hussein Obama!

Yup, according to Obama, Kilpatrick is a "great mayor" who will do "astounding things for many years to come". Boy, I sure can't wait to have a President who is such a shrewd judge of character!

Obama will be calling a press conference soon to denounce his support of this man. And all will be forgiven.

Again.

My wife was in shock tonight when I explained to her that the troops would not in fact be 'coming home' shortly after Obama is sworn in. Funny how that has disappeared from the stump speech ever since Hillary was vanquished.

Guess you missed the news that the Bush Administration agreed with Obama that we should have a timetable and will begin to draw down troops next year.

Either that, or from what I hear from some folks, Obamas got a big mouth and discussed what was already being worked out.

As that issue slid off the table, so did my potential vote for Obama. His aggressiveness on withdrawing from Iraq was one of the few important issues I agreed with him on.

You agreed with Obama's call for a timetable, then the Bush Administration agrees with Obama and will begin next year -- but now you won't vote for him? What am I missing?

Huh? What are you talking about? What imagined sin did Obama commit now?

Candidates get briefed on initiatives the sitting administration is involved in, so they can prepare intelligent position statements when the news hits. It is not unheard of for candidates to take that info and go public with it as though it's their own unique idea.

I have no idea if Obama's actually done that. I do know from Paul (the late Ghost of BiB) that that was one of John Kerry's common practices - his position on Iraq in 2004 was plagirized almost verbatim from his briefing, according to what Paul told me (which, when the administration's plans became known, allowed him and the Democratic Party to claim credit for "thinking of it first").

So although I have no knowledge as to whether or not anyone's doing it THIS time around, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Obama - or, for that matter, McCain if he had the opportunity - did the same thing.

Yep. I remember Bush poking fun at Kerry during on of the debates by saying Kerry's plan was the Bush plan.

What about the entire city/state that elected him mayor? What about everyone who elected Spitzer, Clinton, and any other hack who's shown a lack of character?

I think Obama should have had a sixth sense and known that this guy was secretly stealing money. Obama should have done something with all the time on his hands, such as do a background check on this guy.

It's funny you say that because Palin is also being looked at for letting go a guy just because he would not fire another guy.

When the heck did we switch this discussion from Detroit to NY?

There have been allegations of voter fraud in his reelection campaign in 2005, where Kwame was trailing badly in the polls and somehow pulled it out.

Many big cities have corrupt politics...there's a scandal going on in my county right now. The former county recorder pled to an obscenity charge re: online porn a few months ago, denying it was child pornography (yeah, right...the Feds don't charge you for the regular Playboy-type stuff). About six weeks back, the FBI raided offices of other county officials.

The county recorder is probably the biggest douchebag I've ever seen. He has a history of getting into fights, beat up his ex-wife, and didn't go to jail b/c his best friend and college roomie is the county prosecutor.

In short, he's a really bad guy. He's probably singing like Bruce Springsteen to the feds. Thus, the raid and future charges pending.

When the difference was between McCain's "stay 100 years if necessary" and Obama's "timetable," I preferred Obama's position. In the interim, Obama slid and started saying that he'd trust his commanders and leave when stability allowed or some mealy-mouthed thing. But now that there is a rough timetable and the Iraqis want us out, both candidates have about the same position: leave when the Iraqis ask us to. That's about 2010, which is fine with me. Since there's little difference in the candidate's position now, it's not a convincing issue for me.
