GG Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Seems like only yesterday - when January 2006 brought forth the last installment of the franchise that's in shambles. Boy, does time fly by fast after you hit 40. All we need is RW at the podium (on Tuesday, preferrably)

Truthfully, the Evans situation would seem to be the most bizarre.

Truthfully, the Evans situation would seem to be the most bizarre. Evans situation isn't that puzzling. He wants elite WR money, Bills are probably asking for a home team discount. Of all the players, Evans is playing it right. Show up for work, light up the field in the first game or two, and see the cash register get bigger. Crowell is the bizarre story. Why in the world would he not make sure that he's in the best health coming into his contract year? That's what's confounding. Even if the Bills have no use for you, if you put up the numbers, someone else will pay you. The cynic in me thinks that he got a really bad medical report in the offseason, and tried to get an extension ASAP, knowing that his best days may be behind him.

Great theory. In that sense, he would not have been a major contributor for us this season in any event.

It doesn't make sense from his POV to get surgery and totally screw the Bills over right before a contract year. Really intriguing theory you have, and it seems like the only logical explanation with the info at hand. Thank you for at least somewhat assuaging my mind for the evening....
BillsWatch Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Evans doesnt deserve elite receiver money Not yet - Bills probably offered him an incentive based contract and he wanted guaranteed one
Bmwolf21 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Crowell is the bizarre story. Why in the world would he not make sure that he's in the best health coming into his contract year? I was thinking the same thing - even if he figured that he wasn't going to be in the Bills' plans for next year, you'd think he would want to come in and have a monster contract year. I hadn't considered the possibility that he had already gotten a bad medical report from the docs and didn't know the best way to proceed. You'd also think that his agent would be trying to give him some good advice, but I wouldn't think that "get surgery 3 days before the opener" would be on his list of recommendations.

I looked for a couple minutes but I couldn't figure it out. Who is Crowell's agent?
Bmwolf21 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I looked for a couple minutes but I couldn't figure it out. Who is Crowell's agent? I tried Googling it but came up empty. To be fair I only looked for a couple minutes...
GG Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 I tried Googling it but came up empty. To be fair I only looked for a couple minutes... I thought it was Todd France, but could be wrong.
Ramius Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I was thinking the same thing - even if he figured that he wasn't going to be in the Bills' plans for next year, you'd think he would want to come in and have a monster contract year. You'd also think that his agent would be trying to give him some good advice, but I wouldn't think that "get surgery 3 days before the opener" would be on his list of recommendations. My thoughts were that once Crowell realized the Bills weren't going to be tossing big bucks at him to stay, he realized that he'd be better off having surgery now and playing lights out in the final 10 or whatever number of games, as opposed to having surgery at the end of the year or after the season, which could limit his payday. If there's one thing this front office has shown, its that team players will be rewarded, but those who put themselves above the betterment of the team will not be tolerated. As much as i hate to draw this comparison, think of what the scumbag cheating pats* would have done in this same situation. They'd have told both Peters and Crowell to take a hike.
