I read this on buffalobills.com message board earlier as well. I dont get that. I mean even if McCargo isn't what the bills wanted him to be, go thru a season with Stroud/Williams/Spencer Johnson? He was continually out of position and then would later claim "it wasn't me". He let his teammates down in two ways when he did that - messing up the play in the first place and then trying to hang someone else out to dry afterwards. The Crowell situation re-emphasizes the fact that this team is still thin at most positions and the bills are only a few injuries away from saying good bye to the playoffs. Why wasnt this decision made earlier in the year when he first knew about his knee. Waiting a few days before the opener kinda slaps your team in the face. My personal opinion, is that with Mitchell & Poz in there I think Ellison will do just fine. Last year when he was in there he was not that bad. Who's to say that Walker is not better than an unmotivated Peters and Ellison is not better than an injured Crowell. We may be better off the way we are. Let's just wait and see. Yes for all intents and purposes Walker is better then what we've seen in the past pre- peters. At least it's not Mike Gandy anymore.... Even the most ardent homer would find it difficult to believe a tackle combo of Walker/Chambers is better then that of Peters/Walker. I'm in the camp of. "I've seen worse, but I'm far from optomistic about this." As far as Ellison/Crowell go. I never thought Crowell was going to be re-signed anyway. I figured Evans deal would be done, and they'd regnotiate with Peters on an extension after this season, while letting Crowell walk, and drafting his replacement in 09. This was before the Peters holdout, and Crowell being put on ir. I looked at lb core this year though as a strength with Mitchell/Poz/Crowell. We've seen Ellison before. We know the song and dance. He's good in pass coverage, but the guy simply gets draged by rb's. It's not similar to the giants situation. Strahan retires. No problem that's why they have osi/tuck/kiwanuka. Lose Osi..... Maybe a bit of problem. Oh wait we have that guy we drafted in the 1st rd 2 years ago. Mathias Kiwanuka, we can just move him back to dend. It's a luxury the Bills surely don't have. I'd like to be as optomistic as possible, but while I see some upside to Ellison playing passing downs. I don't look at Keith Ellison, and go "Well here's a guy we can rely on for 16 games". The biggest problem with Peters, besides his attitude, is that no one - no one at all - has seen him lift a weight, run a sprint, move a tackling dummy, or play a single NFL down since he went down at the end of last season... December 26, 2007 - The Buffalo Bills will look to finish the season on a high note this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but will have to do so without Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters. Peters, who started the team's first 15 games, will be forced to sit out due to a re-aggravated groin injury suffered in Buffalo's 38-21 loss to the New York Giants. Jauron said Peters had been bothered by a sore groin for several weeks before aggravating it when his right leg slid out from under him while blocking Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Peters lay on the field for several minutes before limping off on his own. He watched from the sideline before being escorted to the Bills locker room with two minutes left in the second quarter. Unfortunately, week 17 isn't the only thing in question. The groin injury has hampered Peters all season and could ultimately keep him out of the Pro Bowl in February. Yeah, he played well - before he got hurt - and showed tons of potential upside, but the Bills need to know if he can even still play the game. But he's definitely overrated, I say better to let him go now than overpay him later, especially if he's a gimp. I just hope that if it looks like Ellison will tank, they don't waste any time, make a quick move with another team, and get him out of there. Yes, we're a little weaker with Ellison in to take over Crowell. But not by much. I also doubt Crowell would be back next year anyway. No Peters, fine we'll keep moving forward. No Crowell, fine we'll keep on moving. This is no where near how bad it was last year with all the guys in IR. We're still in fine position compared to the past several years. Next year I hope we address the two remaining big weaknesses on the team. We need a new stud center and stud linebacker to replace Ellison's new starting position. Go Bills!!
