Front Office: Vindictive, Harsh, Miserly

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry, do you mean that getting hurt constitutes $@#$@#$ with an NFL organization? Wow, you must really hate Everett. Getting hurt like that first game. What a jerk.
Having a chronic knee problem... and then suddenly deciding to have it operated on 3 days before the season is !@#$ing with an organization. The point is that he could have had the operation months ago.

Yes, telling him personally to be quiet for another year was definitely a joke about the English.

Go Bills!

OK - I'm working overnight, I have some spare time, and I am going to break my 18month+ silence on TBD. Hello Everyone.

That Jason Peters was not in camp I was willing to overlook if reported.

That we have messed JP around royally the past few years I could live with, because he's bad more than he's great.

That the team has relocated temporarily to Toronto for 8 games or so I will try to understand.

But this Crowell situation is just bizarre to the point I cant even start to understand it. Even Chris Brown on the Bills own website(!?) obliquely questions the decision.

The way the Front Office are handling personnel decisions right now is odd - and it can't do much but p*ss off the players, make agents suspicious, and cement the Bills as a miscreant organisation on the fringes of the modern NFL.

They have GOT to shore this situation up and fast. If Brandon is being tested, in my view he is failing.

Wow. Then you shouldn't have ended your silence on this thread.

Peters, or more likely his agent, are acting like petulant children! How you are blind to this fact is beyond reason. Neither has even said they want to restructure, it's all just a guess to ALL of us!!! If happen to know something, by all means let us know what that is.

The Crowell thing is bizarre I have to admit. Did the coaching staff know he was injured? If so, they should've addressed it weeks ago. If not, why weren't they told about it at the time? He prob wouldn't have missed any of the season if he had been wiser. I have the blame the league on this because they don't provide a 15/30 day disabled list like MLB does and it would certainly come in more handy in our league than theirs.

Did you follow the team at all last year? Did you not notice almost 1/3 of the roster on IR or miss significant time?

The team took a proactive approach it seems based more on paranoia with expectations so high this season. Did they over react, yes, I believe so but I don't know how serious his injury is. Would Angelo have been 100% healthy by week 8 (I'm being generous here)? The Bills should've waited till they had a better medical opinion on the matter, certainly.

Why you decided to rip the team on the Peters holdout here is illogical and further to compound the insult, you opined that free agents don't want to join the Bills is way off base.

I wouldnt be shocked to see Crowell be let go by the Bills any time this year for what he did. Now I base this solely on what ive read thus far. Seriously Crowell just slapped his entire team in the face.
They wont let him go. he would be free to sign with another team. he could file a grievance and start a fight but with free agency looming that would probably earn him a black 8 ball.

Brandon himself confirmed that Peters was checked out after the surgery by team doctors. In fact, that is the last time he saw Peters. Brandon has also confirmed that he has had brief discussions with Peters' agent. That means that they have in fact talked and on more than one occasion. We have also had several recent confirmations that the team is not willing to renegotiate his contract for this year. Why is it odd that Peters and his agent haven't had public hissy fits like Brandon did? Warring press conferences is the kind of thing we usually condemn but Peters is being taken to task for not pulling a T.Owens of C.Johnson and creating a public spectacle.

apparently we have differing opinions

This is a stretch, but here goes...

Maybe the injury is worse than Jauron reported and Crowell would miss a larger part of the season. Let's say Crowell is healthy enough to play near the middle of the season. The Bills can still actvate him then if he passes through waivers, right? So if the Bills do that, another team would have to be willing to roster Crowell (and cut another player to make room for him) only to have him for a short time before he becomes a free agent. How productive could he be learning a new system mid-year? The Bills might not be all that high on his play and may feel they will lose him anyway at the the end of the year. Maybe they'll take a wait and see approach on his recovery and then roll the dice that he clears waivers IF they want to activate him. If they lose him then, no big deal. Maybe they feel Ellison can play well enough to take this risk and maybe they'll try to make a move to add a LB to the roster now.

This would seem as appropriate a time as any to point out that no one - no one at all - has seen Jason Peters - that "bastard', as Mickey likes to call him - lift a weight, run a sprint, move a tackling dummy, or play a single NFL down since he went down at the end of last season...

December 26, 2007 - The Buffalo Bills will look to finish the season on a high note this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but will have to do so without Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters. Peters, who started the team's first 15 games, will be forced to sit out due to a re-aggravated groin injury suffered in Buffalo's 38-21 loss to the New York Giants. Jauron said Peters had been bothered by a sore groin for several weeks before aggravating it when his right leg slid out from under him while blocking Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Peters lay on the field for several minutes before limping off on his own. He watched from the sideline before being escorted to the Bills locker room with two minutes left in the second quarter. Unfortunately, week 17 isn't the only thing in question. The groin injury has hampered Peters all season and could ultimately keep him out of the Pro Bowl in February.

Yeah, let's just give this guy a huge extension - without knowing if he can even still play the game.

Okay Doctor, where did you go to medical school? He met with the team doctors first, what do you think they recommended? Do you think he decided to have surgery at this point, in a contract year, just to tick you off? Could it possibly be that he "chose" surgery because the team's own docs told him it was necessary? Naaw, couldn't be. Far more plausible that he decided to endanger his last and best shot at a big contract for no reason at all.

i am not a doctor but his knee has been hurting him for two years now. they sent Ko Simpson to have a MRI to ease his fears about his repaired foot. If they did that then it's a safe assumption they did tests on Crowell's knee as well.

If you watch the interviews everyone they spoke to were shocked at what happened. This means a 180 was done on Crowells part. He went from "my knee is fine" to "sorry i am going to have surgery because it's bothering me" within hours. He practiced fully the day before. Ellison said himself he thought Crowell was practicing great for weeks and was shocked.

I don't blame the Bills for putting him to IR. They drafted and released players based upon Crowell being there for opening day. He put the Bills in a tight spot and forced them too put him on IR for the better of the team. I seriously doubt the Bills don't want him there this year. You don't bring in Mitchell to put Ellison to the Bench with no plans of having Crowell around.

it's that simple.

There hasn't been a FO more harsh, miserly, or vindictive than the Pats* and it doesn't seem to have hurt them. They will cut anyone and everyone as soon as they are no longer of use. For example, Troy Brown, thanks for saving our arse this year and playing CB part time. We know that killed your offensive numbers and it's a contract year, but you know we're going to pass on re-signing you. Have a nice day. Deion Branch? uhm no thanks, we know you were a Super Bowl MVP for us but we just don't really feel like giving you any more money. You can go ahead and sit and then we'll deal you away for a draft pick. Thanks for stopping by. Asante Samuel? You know we like you and all and everyone else thinks the rest of our CBs are crap we just can't justify giving you that kind of money, after all, you dropped a pick in the Super Bowl. Give us a call sometime, we'll do lunch. Joe Andruzzi? We know you anchored our line during multiple Super Bowl runs, but we think you're a little old, and frankly expensive, buh-bye. Willie McGinest? You've been the soul of our team for a decade. We forgot that contractually we are not allowed to have a soul, go ahead and play in Cleveland. Damien Woody? too expensive, bye. Lawyer Milloy? You were a warrior for us and we know you'll probably go to Buffalo. We're willing to bank that you haven't got more than one season in the tank and we can replace you with a cheaper player. Pack it up. Drew Bledsoe? You probably saved our team from oblivion. You certainly put us back on the map. But Hell, Buffalo will give us a #1 for you. How can we pass? Confidentially, we weren't all that upset when you nearly died from a sheared aorta you suffered while playing for us. That time your finger was wrecked and you still played? Classic, We'll send it to you on DVD. Tebucky Jones? Great season, but you must've missed the memo that we don't pay safeties. Eugene Wilson? Talk to Tebucky Jones.

Winning solves all ills.

Very good point but there's a little difference between players wanting to be a part of a perennial division winner that has a good chance of winning the Superbowl and a team that hasn't seen the playoffs in 9 years.
