BillsWatch Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 This is a very strange sequence of events. I wonder if there's more to this story... Similiar to Christie except he got injured in practice after last preseason game
JuanGuzman Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Puke. if the hearsay is true I am not pleased at the Bills front office, good god put him on the P.U.P list or something to start before he goes to IR. Right now this looks like a vindictive move by Russ Brandon and co. I'm not justifying Crowell's decision to have surgery right before the season starts, all I am saying is the bills handled it inappropriately.

If its true that he would only miss a month or so and the Bills put him on IR for WHATEVER reason ("revenge," roster spots, etc.), I'm going to be pissed. But until then, this useless exercise in "if this is true..." is a waste of all our time.
Guest dog14787 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 It hurt our defense to lose Crowell, no doubt about it other players just have to step up to the plate and play now. The Poz is going to go bonkers this year, between him and Mitchell I just don't see us losing a step. We are bigger on defense, stronger, and still pretty doggon fast. With a top notch defensive backfield (and we have one) a beefed up pass rush, If TE can keep our defense rested with his long , sustained drives, even without Crowell the Buffalo Bills will still be a mean, nasty, beast to contend with on game day.

Sen. John Blutarsky Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Let's wait until all the facts come out before making more ridiculous assumptions, shall we? Boo this man! Facts have no place on a message board! [/sarcasm] All I know is Crowell hasn't played at all all preseason because his knee was wonky. Does it suck that he's done, yes it does. But I'd rather have a healthy player rather than one who is gimping around all year (see also Takeo Spikes) There doesn't have to be a Machiavellian explanation for everything. FFIW, our defense sucked with Crowell last year. Worst case scenario it still sucks. My guess though is because our DTs have improved that there is more room for a player like Ellison to fly to the ball and we will be pleasantly surprised. At Will Ellison won't have a TE over him and will be free to roam. Assuming that Stroud et al can keep the line off of him he and Poz will flow to the ball. I'm not jumping off the house over this.

PUP list is for players who never passed a physical. They could do with Christie have an injury settlement and release him. They could sign him again week 10.

hudella Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 For what its worth... Crowell allegedly had his knee scoped on thursday morning. Juron answered a question on the bb.com video where he was asked who handled the surgury. He said marzo and bud. However Marzo only does Bill's surguries on mondays and fridays. Which I know becuase my best friends mom is one of his anastesiologists. Now its entirely possible that Marzo performed the surgury anyways. But it may also be possible that he went to a different doctor behind the front office's collective back, or against the advice of the front office, and they were enraged by his actions and decided to cut bait with a player they felt betrayed them. I know... friends mom... Bill Walsh at the buffalo airport... whatever, just throwing it out there. Not saying its true, just saying the angle I have heard from one of Marzo's employees.

So Jauron is lying about who did the surgery?
ganesh Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 It's a contract year, he probably was ticked that he didn't get an extension and decided to have surgery and "screw" the Bills for a couple weeks and show his worth. Bills played hardball and put him on IR, which probably cost him millions in FA next year. My question is, are agents testing Brandon, or do they just have no respect for him? Bill, The Bills have a Salary Cap/Contract Negotiation specialist in Jim Overdorf and everyone including the agents know that the final say in the contract is from WIlson. I don't think any of the agents think of Brandon as a rookie and try to play hardball with him. Just when you think the Bills are on the rise, they have to go through all this crap....Damn....
Mickey Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 It was a chronic thing, Mickey. He had missed several practices and the swelling always came back. Maybe it's worse than he was letting on, maybe not. We don't KNOW much right now with any certainty. But I know that's your comfort zone... I was responding to a poster who called Crowel "dumb" and accused him of letting down his team. He did so based on the same lack of information you lament. Can I be critical of posters who leap to conclusions on insufficient evidence too or do only you have that right? As for the facts, we do know it was a contract year for Crowel so I have no problem believing that he wouldn't endanger arguably the most important year in his career needlessly. We also know he met with team doctors first so however it went down, he made sure to get advice from the team's docs first. Based on that, I don't see any problem mocking a post that goes after Crowel as being stupid or not a team player.
eball Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Message from Bills to Crowell -- "You don't disrespect the family." Ellison, I hope you're ready to step up.

There certainly is a pattern here Mick of near blind support in the face of contrary evidence that the FO is much more at blame than players whose actions hurt the team. Peters sits in a cone of silence, but it's Brandon's fault for not reaching out to him. Crowell decides on surgery three day prior to the opener after missing two preseason games due to a multi-year nagging injury, yet it's the Bills who are unreasonable. At least you're consistent.

Certainly Ralph/Montgomery signs off on every contract, it's his money and I can understand. But when personnel people give him advice and tell him what they're doing, it's not his function to meddle and waffle. Why else would a salary negotiation for the team's best WR last 6 months? Agents have one goal in mind, and that is to get the best contract for their client. I'm absolutely positive that they'd try to exploit the inexperience of a Brandon, and let's be honest, even Overdorf. Then again, the front office could find common ground with a player, and Ralph/Montgomery says no. Speculation, yes. But's it's a distinct possibility with this franchise.
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Message from Bills to Crowell -- "You don't disrespect the family." Ellison, I hope you're ready to step up. You eff with us, we'll eff with you. Brandon is laying the law. Obviously all the facts aren't in, but it does seem very suspicious that Crowell waited this long. I think the front office is doing a great job. You can't let the inmates run the asluym. You come in and play ball and everything will be worked out (McGee, PArrish, Butler, Schobel). If Evans gets his extension, Brandon and co. did about as good of job as you could do.
drg2021 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I think the Bills should have just outright cut him.You dont wait until the season opener to tell them youve decided to have surgury.Id be very surprised if Crowell is on this team next season.Enjoy your schitt pie Crowell.Just my 2 cents
