I don't post here a lot, but I enjoy reading the thread headlines, and I have to admit that the more people start threads, rumors, stories about Sarah Palin, the more obvious it is that they realize they're kinda !@#$ed by the McCain strategy. This woman and her family just went through the past few days of heavy media scrutiny, and she came out the other side with a national speech that was immediately being praised even by the CNN talking heads last night. Ya GOTTA figured the left is very, very worried right now. And now that the water cooler conversations have started with "Is Sarah Palin more experienced than Barack Obama?" it's pretty clear the left feels that Obama is in trouble. Oh, they'll say they're not. But for people who aren't worried, they sure are acting paranoid with some of their talking points. There was a remarkable downturn in the economy for 6-12 months. Spending on big ticket items disappeared after 9/11. What does that mean they have an advocate? Does she support inclusion and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act? How exactly was that implemented in Alaska? I'm pretty sure when she said she is an advocate - 4 million parents last night heard "inclusion". And what is taking money from big oil and returning it to the citizens of Alaska but a windfall profit tax? It is certainly not her base, but going after "community organizers" is basically telling civil rights workers to !@#$ off. She slashed funds for special education two years in a row. Advocates of the "poor, huddled masses" need to realize that we exist in a GLOBAL economy where the BILLIONS of Indian and Chinese workers are willing to WORK for a fraction of what the "poor" expect to receive in government assistance. Jim Crow is a very small part of civil rights - most would consider it much broader. it means things like keeping Head Start, getting Bailey Ave paved, making sure entrepreneurs know how to resource SBA loans in inner cities, keeping public servants accountable (literally, where is the money going?), policing, demolishing blighted houses, etc. I've done my immersions there in a very limited capacity. Title IX Affirmative Action Sexual Harassment laws Just three of dozens of all encompassing laws that grant the Feds and state governments far-reaching powers to ensure "equality." All of which, if violated lead to serious repercussions. I'm not naive enough to think this country is harmonious and I think a large part of the reason why is the above-mentioned and other well-meaning but punitive measures. (Federal constitutional rights) As for Head Start .....and other public programs and services, access to them are often civil rights issues...they are complex because they cut across local, state and federal jurisdictions (And federal, state, and local constitutions and charters). Not to mention that Obama was a community organizer about 15 years ago, and did it for three years. This was before Palin got her 609 votes and won the mayor's race in her home town. The year she became mayor he was elected to the State Senate. He was a State Senator for eight years after and taught Constitutional Law at one of the best law schools in the country for 12 years. Subtle of course, but with a little word play - it could have been "Ghetto activists don't have any personal accountability, do they?" She's smart, and seems like (similar to Barack Obama) someone who has not been corrupted by the system yet. I still don't understand why she doesn't want to invest into other energy sources besides oil. Oil oil oil, I'm starting to hate that stuff, there do exists other resources on this planet. It was a pretty good speach overall, well delivered. She talked a lot of smack on Obama. I dunno, whatever, the sarcasm on his devine abilities (While funny at first) is growing old.
