finknottle Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Jockeying for the pole position in 2012 has begun. I thought Steele was good but he didn't wow me; Romney tried too hard to mark his turf as the arch-conservative, came off as unlikeable; and Huckabee was witty, entertaining, and moving. He stole the show.
JK2000 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Nice touch by the RNC creating a virtual yule log of the post 9/11 skyline to serve as a backdrop for Rudy. We get it, you were mayor during 9/11!!!
finknottle Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 And I thought Guilaini did an *exceptional* job. Politics aside, he did everything you could want as a leas-in: pump up the party, hit the opposition hard (yet with humor), and pump up Palin. Fantastic delivery... Watching Huckabee and Guilaini perform, I still have to scratch my head that McCain won the nomination.
JK2000 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Hahahahahahahaha! This is the first time I've heard Plain speak-How come nobody mentioned her ridiculous accent?

Reparation for South Carolina, 2000.
sweet baboo Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Hahahahahahahaha! This is the first time I've heard Plain speak-How come nobody mentioned her ridiculous accent? what accent? the mild canadian accent?
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Hahahahahahahaha! This is the first time I've heard Plain speak-How come nobody mentioned her ridiculous accent? I did in one of the first threads... She sounds like a Canadian: "Mum, can I huve a qwarter for huckey... Mum, qwarter for huckey?"
finknottle Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Because he made a "deal" with the Bushistas that this would be "his" year... Reparation for South Carolina, 2000. Yeah, but it still took skill and luck to squeeze by while the big three knocked each other out.
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Yeah, but it still took skill and luck to squeeze by while the big three knocked each other out. True dat!
molson_golden2002 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 She is doing great But she has to explain her major problems. Experience is not the issue at all. Its all the crap she has done, the lies and why McCain didn't vet her. She can run against the media all she wants, that will win the GOP base, wow!
KD in CA Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 She is doing great But she has to explain her major problems. Experience is not the issue at all. Its all the crap she has done, the lies and why McCain didn't vet her. She can run against the media all she wants, that will win the GOP base, wow! Yes she is doing well....very likable. What 'major problems' does she need to explain? She has to explain McCain's vetting process? Yeah, that's really a top concern of voters. And she's barely mentioned the media. She's running against an empty suit and has scored some points. Line of the night: I guess being a mayor is like being a community....organizer. Except you actually have responsibilities.

Politics aside, he did everything you could want as a leas-in: pump up the party, hit the opposition hard (yet with humor), and pump up Palin. Fantastic delivery... Rudy would be a great MC at a comedy club. He was a little wild, but always entertaining.

Kelly the Dog Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I thought Palin did fabulous. Very impressive for all the pressure that was on her. She has a great future in the party.
KD in CA Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Home run speech We'll see how it resonates with ordinary voters. It could be a wild card.
finknottle Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 I put it as strong and solid. Not sure about home-run, to an undecided. Huckabee and Guilaini set really high high bars in terms of performance. But I thing she did a good job of accomplishing everything she needed to.
X. Benedict Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I thought Palin did fabulous. Very impressive for all the pressure that was on her. She has a great future in the party. She was very good. I thought a lot of it sounded like the Alaskan State of the State, but she did well. Composed. Clear voiced. Now McCain is stepping all over the moment.
BigAL Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I thought Palin did fabulous. Very impressive for all the pressure that was on her. She has a great future in the party. I thought she presented well, but the speech was totally uninspiring and bland.
molson_golden2002 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 We'll see how it resonates with ordinary voters. It could be a wild card. Some funny points were her talking about Obama speaking in front of adoring fans, just like she was doing. The Bridge to No Where which she supported Then she talked about cutting taxes because all that tax revenue she got in Alaska from Big oil, lol But, she kicked ass
Kelly the Dog Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 She was very good. I thought a lot of it sounded like the Alaskan State of the State, but she did well. Composed. Clear voiced. Now McCain is stepping all over the moment. Oh yeah. I don't want her anywhere near the White House, but there was a lot of pressure on her to perform, and she looked composed, and personable, and showed strength. It will be a lot different on the trail, and we have no idea how she will be answering questions from the press, or dealing with the 100 other things she needs to do. But she got off to a great start.
