With football starting and kids going back to the classroom, the movie studios prepare for box office numbers to fall, as the so called "Adult Season" of September starts. There is always room for a popcorn movie here and there, but now is the time when movies targeting the 40 year old and up bracket. This also marks the time when the words "Oscar contender", begins to pop up.

For the third time in their illustrious careers, Robert DeNiro & Al Pacino headline a movie together, in the crime thriller "Righteous Kill". In this film two veteran New York City detectives work to identify the possible connection between a recent murder and a case they believe they solved years ago. While the plot may not be too exciting, it is the teaming of DeNiro & Pacino that will be the draw, and the casting of 50 Cent will bring in a younger crowd as well. The film may not be destined for Oscar like The Godfather Part II, and may not end up with a huge fan following that Heat has. Still DeNiro & Pacino are big names and this is the type of film that most fans would want to see them in. Carla Gugino, Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo, and Brian Dennehy co-star.

The Coen Brothers follow up their Oscar winning No Country For Old Men, with the more light hearted "Burn After Reading". A disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous gym employees who attempt to sell it. The Coens have their loyal following of fans, and with this movie they look to make them laugh again. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, & Tilda Swinton star.

Shia LeBeouf goes the big budget action route with "Eagle Eye". A young man and his mother become unwitting members of a terrorist cell plotting a political assassination. Michelle Monaghan & Rosario Dawson co-star.

Nicolas Cage tries to show everybody that he is still an action star with "Bangkok Dangerous". Cage plays a hitman travelling in Bangkok to pull off a series of jobs, then falls for a local woman and bonds with his errand boy.

In a remake of George Cukor's 1939 film, "The Women" is about a wealthy New Yorker who leaves her cheating husband and bonds with other society women at a resort. Meg Ryan, Annete Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing, Carrie Fisher, Bette Midler, Candice Bergan, Cloris Leachman, & Debi Mazar star.

"Nights in Rodanthe" is the story of a doctor who is traveling to see his estranged son and sparks with an unhappily married woman at a North Carolina inn. Richard Gere, Diane Lane, and James Franco star.

In "Lakeview Terrace", An LAPD officer will stop at nothing to force out the interracial couple who just moved in next door. Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Wilson & Kerry Washington star.

In "Igor", Tired of playing second fiddle to his "Master," a talented laboratory assistant looks to win the annual Evil Science Fair with his own creation. Starring the voice talents of John Cusack, SteveBuscemi, John Cleese, and Molly Shannon.

In "The Family that Preys", Faced with a series of secrets and scandals that are threatening to tear their respective families apart, old friends Charlotte and Alice embark on a cross-country road trip in hopes of finding a way to end the drama and rebuild their familial connections. Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, and Sanaa Lathan.

In "The Lucky Ones", Three soldiers meet one another as they have all returned from Iraq, and circumstance unites them for a road trip across the country, in which they hope to fulfill different personal missions. Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins, and Michael Pena star.

In "Ghost Town", Bertram Pincus dies for a seven-minute period during his routine colonoscopy, then awakens to realize he has gained the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, and Tea Leoni star.

In "My Best Friend's Girl", Tank makes a living as an uncouth womanizer hired by guys who want their girlfriends or wives to reconsider leaving them. But what happens when his behavior has the opposite effect on Alexis, the love of his best friend's life?

Kate Hudson, Dane Cook, and Jason Biggs star.

Finally in "Miracle at St. Anna", A murder committed by post-office worker Hector Negron in 1984 sets in motion an investigation that ties back to the experiences of a battalion of black American soldiers who became trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII. Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, and Laz Alonso star.

Fall movies: Go see "The Express", have a cry, think about a backfield with Jim Brown AND Ernie Davis. Any Bills fan and "Cuse lover from "the old days" will love it. My dad went to Syracuse in the the early thirties on a full football scholarship from Masten High, made All High and knew Simmons and Ben. Brings back great memories for me, and I'm 63. It will not be popular except to the die hards.
