ExiledInIllinois
TSW. I for one love the Yankees, they epitomize everything that is America. I might not always agree with King George's policy running the team at times. I do admit he tries to do everything in the best interest of the team. Sometimes it fails catastrophically. Cross this over to the nation and politics. America will survive. The competiton makes it great. Give me a reason why you may feel that this assessment is wrong? Change my POV. People don't like a sports team and talk trash so the world hates us? 78922 I think the Yankees are America in microsism. Growing up I was a deep Yankee hater. I find it now hard to hate them. It is like when I said to my wife I wanted to go to Iraq... She went off a said "You aren't even for the war!". That is not the point. I still have a sense of duty, even when my country effs up. Same with the Yankees. I from NY first... Buffalo. I will explain more later... Gotta go. BillsGuyInMalta
One of my roommates here is writing his senior thesis on how the store "Spencer's Gifts" is a summation of all the reasons why the world hates America. His work is downright hilarious...think about it...the store has uber-flashing lights everywhere, tacky and expensive jewelry, novelties that no one needs, an entire section dedicated to kinky sex in the back and has a strange love affair with Bob Marley. Who wouldnt hate that? (aside from Bob Marley himself)

Cowboys and Lakers, hate 'em. Yanks: classy organization on the surface, micromanaging fascist up-top, plenty of great players and a few guys who think they're bigger than the game. (aside from Bob Marley himself) And how, exactly is what youve described above, basically a description of Tokyo, Amsterdam, Berlin and about ten other FOREIGN cities, a reason to hate the U.S.? The U.S. has FAR from cornered the market on tacky crap and porn. In fact, compared to the rest of the world, we have a ton LESS of that stuff. ubhockey
TSW. I for one love the Yankees, they epitomize everything that is America. 78684 I second that. The world in general does not like the USA. There are a few nations (England, Poland, etc.) that respect us and stand with us but even in those nations, a great number of people would like to see us knocked down every now and then. But when the next global threat comes about, whether its from or out of this world, everyone will turn to us. They hate us, but we need us. RkFast
I really dont think the world hates us as much as the Left would love everyone to believe. Sure some countries have a secret hate for the U.S. But overall, what this country has done for mankind in a positive sense far outweighs what it has done in a negative sense. And the rest of the world appreciates and respects that.
Barry in KC
The reason I don't like the Yankees is because what they have done to small market teams like the Royals. (I don't blame Steinbrenner, by the way). I really wanted there to be a strike during the last CB negotiations for 2 reasons; level the economic playing field so teams like the Royals could be more competitive, and so that the NHL players might have realized what greed can do. Again, I don't blame the Yankee organization for buying players, but the Yankees are the symbol for unfairness in MLB. But I could be wrong. And didn't they change uniforms from polyester to cotton once.....?

blzrul
People like to feel superior to other people. It's hard when they always lose (as to the Yankees or to the US in terms of not having the freedom, the wealth, the prestige, etc). So it's hard to resist either actively trying to bring the winner down or rejoicing when they fall. I am a Yankee fan but I am a realist. I didn't think they'd make the Series this year because of their (relative) lack of pitching. Turns out I was right. As a Bills fan I can sympathize with what the Red Sox fans have had to live with. I may never live to see the Bills in another Superbowl after all so I can understand how Sox fans feel. I wish the Sox the best. John Kerry is a Sox fan after all.
