LPGA to require all players to speak Engrish

KD in CA

I wish the NFL Network would have the same rule for the guys calling their games.

Nicely done LA...

+1 for you on this Tuesday afternoon.

Why do I suspect (like KD) the backlash for this "guideline" is going to be unbelievable?

My personal view: They are pros at hitting a golf ball. They should focus on hitting a golf ball. Who cares what language they speak, and who cares if the soundbite is delivered by a translator? Hell, the LPGA should just tell the translators to give their own interesting answer if the player's answer is boring.

My real world view: Money talks like usual, and if there were no sponsors, there'd be no tour. If the sponsors put pressure on the LPGA to make their players "relate" more to Americans, I completely understand why the LPGA would do this, and I'm sure the foreign players understand also.

The truth: The foreign players know the deal, and they'll adhere to the governing body on this one. They don't have much choice. Either fall in line and do what the LPGA says, or go find another job.

Also, no sponsors = no prize money. Its in the players best interest to comply.

Can this really be true? If so, it's sure to be withdrawn. Why would you alienate the world like that?

Alienate? Do you really think players will refuse to learn English and not play in the LPGA? It's their chance to make millions, I doubt they'll go to another tour that nobody watches and make 1/10th as much. Why shouldn't sports be like any other job? If you work in America, there is a good chance you have to speak at least basic English to communicate with co-workers, unless you're picking apples of course.
