colin Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 No but my mom has been in medical research working on steroids at a world-renowned medical institute that has a nobel prize winner as their president for the past 30 years....would you like me to get her personal opinion? Is that enough "research" for you...likely you wouldn't even know the substances and compounds she was working on so it would be pretty pointless for her to give you a dissertation on the subject anyways... Lets save the smart comments... dude you ripped off thousands of times one's natural levels, that is stands to reason that it wreaks havoc, and enough other bullchit talking points to fill a nancy reagan speach. i'm not a world renowned expert, but i'm friggen dr zielger compared the inane junk that has been spouted off in this thread. anyhow, pure garbage.
fairweather fan Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Strange. Steroids usually help reduce joint pain and swelling. Actuallly pro players take HGH for quicker recovery, although you are right about steroid use to treat injuries. The problem is, if they are used for body building, the muscles get too large and strong for the surrounding ligaments, and when they tear during use, it is major, major.
WellDressed Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 When young George was growing up in England, his father said don't go down on boys, they didn't listen and now look at the two guys.

MattyT Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 UPDATE: Despite the opinion from at least 4 different doctors that Merriman should have surgery, Merriman will play out the season. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8495712...13162&ATT=5 Have fun on crutches Shawne.

John from Riverside Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Anybody want to take bets that he doesn't last the season........ Shoot....my son came down with a groin pull the first week of training camp and I held him out a week...... If this happened he would be done for the season.....health first.
Saint Doug Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 This guy is a total idiot. He sounds like a fricken caveman "It's simple. I just want to play football...." It's either he stinks it up during the first couple of games and realizes he can't do it and goes throught with the surgery. Or, they jack him up on meds before each game and he ends up doing permanent damage, ending his career. My only wonder is how can the Chargers let him play. Usually coaches follow the team doctor's advice as gospel and will not let players on the field until they are medically cleared. Now, there are 3 other specialists saying the exact same thing - not to play football. Will Norv Turner be at fault for actually letting him on the field?

Never been a big Merriman fan and I agree it's not the smart thing to do, but I love his mentality and would welcome this attitude on the Bills.

That's all this is, he is putting him collecting his paycheck and any bonus money while jeopardizing his career and lets not forget the damage he is doing to the team by having a guy on the field who needs to rely on speed and agility when there is someone who could step in and do the job (not as good as him of course) but be able to play at 100% and not half azz it all year

Per the ESPN families, the Charger 'doctors' are the only ones who say (paraphasing here) 'it shouldn't be too bad..' -thus putting Merriman in a spot where it will look he's coppin' out on his teammates. This -sadly- makes more sense and is probably at the core of this young mans' decision making. If so, the Chargers!
Sisyphean Bills Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I know this is cynical, but is he in the last year of his contract?

Never been a big Merriman fan and I agree it's not the smart thing to do, but I love his mentality and would welcome this attitude on the Bills. Or, you could say he is selfish and not a team player. He is obviously no where near 100% (otherwise he wouldn't be seeking so many doctor's opinions), so he is a liability to his team. He is putting himself and the satisfaction he gets from playing before having his team win.
