BuffaloBud
MarkVaderr50 - can you clue me in on the buzz on this movie? Saw the ad for this coming out in October. Typical sports / football movie?
Golden Wheels
The trailer has been on You Tube for a few months. They based it on the book The Elmira Express about Ernie Davis. It looks like it's going to be a good movie, and I think it's important for people to know what the first black heisman trophy winner had to go through to play. They clearly take poetic license however. I don't think Coach Ben Schwartzwalder what that much of an equal rights crusader. In fact, there was a group of black players who boycotted spring practice in 1970 because they felt football Coach Schwartzwalder and his coaching staff didn't give them equal academic support and medical care and wanted the university to hire a black assistant coach. I'm an SU grad, so I think I'll see the movie, regardless.
buckeyemike
Ernie Davis was originally drafted by the Washington Redskins. He was then traded to the Browns. Could you imagine Davis and Jim Brown in the same backfield? Unfortunately, Ernie Davis died of cancer before it could happen. He made one appearance as a Brown...there's a brief snippet of it in the link posted. He's wearing #45. The Browns retired #45 in honor of Ernie Davis after his death.
