kota
I dont' understand the fans here. If the Bills can't defeat the Jets with Farve what makes anything think we will win a playoff game. I am sorry but just making it to the playoffs isn't good enough. I find it funny that the Packers wouldn't just release Favre due to the Vikings. The poison pill in the Jet trade makes it even funnier. If the Packers can't defeat a viking Team lead by Favre what makes them think they could beat a AFC team in the Superbowl? There are only two legit Superbowl winners in the NFC that i can see. NFC Superbowl Contenders Giants Cowboys AFC Superbowl Contenders Chargers Steelers Jaguars Patriots Colts Bills (had to throw it here out of pride)

The Vikes and Bucs with Favre however ARE SB contenders. Trading him to the Jets made the most sense for the Packers, although apparently according to the Bucs, they were never really all that interested. OCinBuffalo
Hey OC, reread this post. While you may agree with the content, you come across as a know-it-all idiot. Evans is that good, huh? Get over yourself. Hey Billsoverdue, perhaps you need to look at the whole thread and see what I was responding to before you make judgments. I was told: 1. I don't know football 2. I am a homer 3. I don't know who Cothchery and Coles are. Taken in that context, I hardly think my response was untoward. The fact is I have seen Lee play live, this year, and he looks twice as good as he ever has. Cotchery and Coles will have to improve their game 10 fold to be = to him....this year. I am merely responding to a guy talking out his ass using fantasy stats, or whatever, to make his point. And too bad if you don't like me sticking up for myself. You better get used to it buddy. But, I'm guessing this was simply an oversight on your part. rastabillz
The Jets with Favre aren't a SB contender. The Vikes and Bucs with Favre however ARE SB contenders. Trading him to the Jets made the most sense for the Packers, although apparently according to the Bucs, they were never really all that interested. The ESPN crew (circle jerk) tonight were tripping over themselves in how great this trade was the Jets. TJ even went so far to say that this makes them a contender beyond just making the playoffs. IMO, Bret caught lightning in a bottle last year and had a dream season. Before that he was an aging QB in decline and I see that pattern continuing this season. The Packers had the easiest path to the Super Bowl last season of any of the NFC teams, especially after the Giants beat Dallas and gave the Green Bay Packers home field in the Conference Championship with brutally cold weather-normally a big advantage for GB. Despite those the advantages the Packers couldn't close the deal with Eli outplaying BF in the second half of the game. I doubt Favre comes close to having the kind of year he did last season. I respect him but think he has to much to overcome and lot will be put on his shoulders. I wonder if there is any decension in the locker room with the relaese of Pennington? Buftex
I think Bills fans are overestimating how bad the Jets are. I don't think Favre takes them to the Super Bowl, or maybe not even to the playoffs, but he makes them as least as "dangerous" as the Bills have been these last few 6-10, 7-9 seasons...I don't think the Jets are an automatic "W" for Buffalo. Dan
If the trade is completed and Favre plays in the green uni, he'll get about a 5 game honeymoon before he begins to be consumed by the media in NY, a media who will have no respect for the trophies, rings and banners Favre earned as a member of the Green Bay Packers. I always liked watching the guy play- he's a good leader and fun on the field- but he's frequently on the wrong side of the risk equation and moving to the AFC East with the 2008 Jets is likely to turn into a disaster for his reputation, a rep he's already tarnished with his flip-flopping. Until the smoke clears I'll be a little skeptical about it coming to pass, but if it does it sure stinks of a "Be Careful What You Wish For" situation for a guy who could have otherwise enjoyed a lot of rounds of golf with premium endorsement income over the next dozen or so years. That would be 1. Singular. For all of Favre's greatness he's only won 1 Superbowl.
AKC
That would be 1. Singular. For all of Favre's greatness he's only won 1 Superbowl. I won't dispute the premise on QB- in fact I'm of the belief that there isn't a more overrated (not to mention misunderstood) position in the game, at least at the Pro level. There are plenty of downright bad QBs who have hoisted a Lombardi in modern times- but not a single bad defense. In fact, the defenses of the Lombardi winner in recent years have always been among the best in the league with the exception of the Indy D two years ago who came into their own by the time they hit the playoffs. Many experts felt in the playoffs they were among the top league defenses. As to the trophies- the NFC gives out the Halas and the NFL gives out the Lombardi, same things for rings, and I believe but could be wrong that there are banners for both the NFC and Super Bowl champs?
