erynthered
Oh I know. We can give notrogen tanks to the bums on the corners who wash your windows. Instead of washing windows with dirty rags they fill your tires with nitrogen. Government can pay for it, and probably do it real cheap. I am sure it will be less than 100 billion per year. Of course we'd need a bum training program and bum placement program so there isn't too many bums consolidated in one area. Hell this could be tagged, "The Bum on every corner" campaign. What about all those cars at junk yards with under-inflated tires, something has to be done about those poor tires.......
Chilly
What about all those cars at junk yards with under-inflated tires, something has to be done about those poor tires....... lol. The ridiculousness of the whole thing is Obama completely neutralized a good suggestion by making a stupid political statement. Telling people to inflate their tires and get tune-ups is, of course, a good thing, but claiming its going to have the same impact as offshore drilling? Lawl. The sad part is by making it a political attack on his opponent, he's undermined his own advice. Judgment to lead indeed.
SD Jarhead
I see three problems with your solution:1: Hot air rises. So the tire pressure at the top will be higher than the pressure at the bottom. Unfortunately the bottom of the tire is what comes in contact with the road, so there won't be any real gain in tire pressure 2: How are we going to transport all of that hot air from Washington to the rest of the country 3: If we figure out a solution to my second problem (how to transport), I'm still concerned with how the hot air from Washington will react with the smug clouds above San Fransisco, Boston, and anywhere near Barak Obama

Just how much will the offshore drilling actually help if the oil is not kept here. It will end up on the world market instead of here. Anyways, why isn't there much talk about drilling in the gulf, where we know there is more oil. Why is ANWR continually brought up (we all know why), when there is another location in alaska with more oil that goes untouched. Why are we not focusing more on the renewable sources of fuel? Even if we dig up all the oil we have in this country, it is still a miniscule source. Everything seems so backwards

Hot air eventually cools 2. I live in CA, 3000 miles from DC and I still get the hot air treatment every day. 3. Currently the hot air from DC mixes quite well with those places. Everything seems so backwards ANWR and the Louisiansa swamplands are brought up because we already have limited drilling there. Drilling capacity could be greatly increased quickly in both places and could start pumping if I remember correct 6 million barrells a day within 3 years. that's why. Like why the !@#$ does 70% of the Country want this Government to get off its bickering political asses and do something for a change. This shiit has been going on for nearly 4 decades. Both parties are at fault in this. Like Drill and start building Nuclear facilities. The other things will come.

I don't want to act like I know everything about it, as I clearly don't. All I hear is it will take about 7-8 years to get oil from up there, and I would hope we'd be close to not needing it by then- I do understand that the drilling in itself could drop prices now through speculating. Trust me, I completely understand the problem with the 2 parties- which may be more collusion between the two than we realize- that is why it isn't a lock that I vote for McCain or Obama

John Adams
The Republicans abolished slavery. The current Republican party, however, has only little in common with the Republican Party of 1850. It's not like you can draw a line establishing Bush as Lincoln's intellectual and philosophical heir.

Trucking, Airlines, Shipping...etc. Those will not be powered by electric or any other type of fuel for a very long time. Also lets not forget all those other things that are made as a byproduct of oil..... Even Collectible cars too!!

Adam
Close to not needing oil in 7-8 years? I'm not following you. I find it hard to believe that we don't have the technology to accomplish this quickly- I am saying I would like it to be that quickly, I am not saying it is possible. Someone in my line of work couldn't possibly be certain about that. What I do know, is it would be much easier if our government took care of things HERE, before going from country to country trying to fix things over there while everybody else passes us by. John Adams
No but it's a lot closer then the current socialist party (democrats) are. I am not so sure. In Lincoln's day, if you didn't have enough money to eat, you starved or got help from charitable people. Not the government. You think soldiers are getting screwed in 2008; the vets regularly went without pay in 1850. The government of 1850 had a pretty minimal hand in everyday life; today's Republicans are in every aspect of your life from your bedroom to deep into your wallet. Repubs are just about as socialist as Dems; the only difference is that Reps like to think they are different.

That said, I relate more closely with the conservatives (yeah I know few and far between) who tend to be repubs. And a conservative is not a libertarian. So you're saying JC is ahead of his time. Just the fact that they hired bums (Government Employees) to do the work was a fruitless effort. Privatize it and make it worth something and private industry would have done it long ago.
