Chilly
From http://www.wisn.com/packers/17029682/detail.html GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The NFL has confirmed that Brett Favre has sent in his reinstatement papers, requiring the Green Bay Packers to take action. The Packers now have 24 hours to either put him on the roster, trade him, or release him. According to ESPN'S Chris Mortensen, Favre told him, "I asked Ted [saturday], 'Am I welcome in the building if I report?' And Ted was just about shattered," Favre said. "He said, 'Brett, you can't do that -- you'll get me fired.' I told him I'm not trying to get anybody fired. So Ted asked me to let the guys report and let's try to resolve this over the next two or three days."
H2o
Actually he must be in a league with the Patriots, as the ESPN news scroll did the same thing for them during spygate updates. And that's saying something for Brett As they did with Kobe Bryant when he was going through the rape case in Colorado.
BillsWatch
I think a lot of fans get their opinions from the shouting "sports writers" on ESPN and talk radio, but Packers fans are backing the franchise in this episode. Personally, I think the Packers are being pretty stupid. Sure, Favre is a prima-donna (the same fans and media created the prima-donna Favre), but I still don't see where that gives the Packers the right to keep him from playing. Packers have same right as Bills have to prevent Peters from walking to another team to get a higher contact because his agent screwed up and amount paid to players jumped up - he signed a contract. The signing bonus he collected gives the team the right to control his destiny for as long as they fullfill the rest of the contract. I really do not understand why fans do not understand that. bills_fan
The real funny thing will be if Rodgers is the next Todd Collins....I can see the following exchange in December 2008... You mean we pushed out Brett freakin' Favre, who had a decent 2008 season, in a brand new offense, for the [insert name of team he is dealt to] for Aaron Rodgers??? What were we thinking? We were 2-3 plays away from the Super Bowl the year before and we don't take Favre back to give Aaron Rodgers a shot? What does Thompson think...great NFL QBs just grow on trees? He should have asked the Bills, Dolphins and Broncos how tough it was to find even competant QB play after their Hall of Famers retired. How stupid were we? Brett...pleaseee come back to Green Bay!! Buftex
Packers have same right as Bills have to prevent Peters from walking to another team to get a higher contact because his agent screwed up and amount paid to players jumped up - he signed a contract. Ah...I knew you would say that... I understand that, I just meant "what right?" do they have in a more emotional sense. Why would they deprive a guy, as flakey as he might be, who has done far more for their franchise than anyone in the last 35 years (and I mean anyone) from playing football for another year or two, if he wants to? If they think he is washed up, and won't take them any further than he already has, why be so gutless as to not just try to trade him to the one team that seems to want him, and that he wants...the Vikings. If the answer is, that they don't want to see him twice a year, and they don't want him to hurt their own franchises chances of making the playoffs, than, I am sorry, I think that is weak. That means they are not worried about putting the best team on the field in Green Bay, in 2008. The guy wants to play, he is a better QB than anyone that the Packers, and about 15 other teams have, on their roster. The Packers know they have a valuable commodity, so why be so scared to get something for it? It just seems, when it boils down to it, the Packers will only be happy if Favre stays retired. If you believe reports, they want too much for him, and they know they won't get it. Sorry, but I think the Packers, whether they want Favre or not, have only hurt themselves, and their franchise, with the way this has been handled. I predict they will trade him, for far less than they might have, if they had played their hand better.
Marv Levy
The whole thing is just stupid. The guy held a retirement press conference for crissakes. Now he wants to come back. He shouldn't have retired in the first place. He's already won everything in the league! Let it go and enjoy your $$millions$$ the rest of your life. I hate the Packers anyway and Farve is now looking like a dumbshit. So screw him, the Pack and ESPN update scrollbars! GO BILLS! "LETS GO BUFF-A-LO!!" BillsWatch
Ah...I knew you would say that... Yes because it is sensible. Letting Farve walk would hurt in negotiating with players in future. What surprises me is Farve has not offered to give back signing bonus knowing that some team would give it back when he signed. The fact that he hasn't but has talk about the Packers releasing him says he is trying to get a 2nd signing bonus.
