PromoTheRobot Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Merger approved 3-2 Sirius and XM say subscribers won't need new receivers to get programming from both services. What I want to know is can my receiver get more than 200 channels? Will I get NHL games again? And will my bill go up? PTR
Cynical Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Merger approved 3-2 And will my bill go up? PTR Probably not. One of the arguments for merger was the companies had hit or were near peak price points people would be willing to pay for a subscription. In other words, if they started to jack up the price, they would start losing customers.
Just Jack Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 And will my bill go up? Not for three years. From the article... The companies voluntarily agreed to a set of conditions, including a three-year price cap and an 8 percent set-aside of "full-time audio channels" for public interest and minority programming.
John Adams Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 8 % absolutely no one will listen to. Yup. Hope they put the min one block of channels so I can just skip them. I've heard XM. Not sure it has any redeeming value.
The Poojer Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 what i have heard they will do is allow you to be status quo with your current subscription and then have an ala carte style menu for the rest. For example, I have Sirius, that will remain, now if I want MLB, I will add $XX.XX to my current rate, etc....at least thats what i hope holds true Merger approved 3-2 Sirius and XM say subscribers won't need new receivers to get programming from both services. What I want to know is can my receiver get more than 200 channels? Will I get NHL games again? And will my bill go up? PTR
Ned Flanders Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Details like this are still unclear, but the Washington Post had a pretty decent Q and A in the paper this morning: Link
LewPort71 Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks for the link... One of the Q & A's answered one of my questions. I have XM and would like to add the NFL feed...
taterhill Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks for the link... One of the Q & A's answered one of my questions. I have XM and would like to add the NFL feed... I want Baseball and Hockey...yay
Ned Flanders Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Baseball!!! With XM baseball, you get the home team broadcast only...unlike Sirius which gives you the choice of either NFL team's feed.
buckeyemike Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The merger is official as of today...new name is Sirius XM Radio. Nothing but thumbs up for this one.
