why waste the picks

they already have Chambers and Matt Murphy.

just not enough roster spots for adding actual talent to the OL

I think the proper response was....

why was the picks

they already have one of the league's best LT's signed for 3 more years ;)

who would have guessed that Peters is selfish and has an over inflated view of himself

Bad thing is that he's showing his true colors no matter how the current impass ends. He's just another greedy SOB who really doesn't get the team concept. Pity. If he hadn't signed with the Bills. he could have played in the Arena league for about 25K/yr and drove truck for another 35K. Now he's earning about 50 times that and is only concerned about what the guy next to him earns. The Bills will not reward for bad behavior. How many of you understand that?

I mean, it would hurt our performance on the field, but Peters can sit out indefinitely and never become a free agent if the Bills are willing to play hardball.

Peters has made himself a poster child. He can sit out the rest of his life for all I care.

what if there are more facts which the Bills or Peters have not disclosed.

what if 2 years ago the Bills (under Marv Levy) wanted to lock up Peters to something longer than the 1 year tender.

They knew they were going to move him to LT.

Parker and Peters presumed this as well.

So to protect themselves, they asked for an escalator which would increase the base salary if Peters started at LT.

Parker wanted the increase to reflect what real LTs make. The Bills, insisting that Peters was only a RT, capped the escalator at $1 million, but promised they would re-do the contract if Peters did indeed move to LT successfully. This escalator is in Peters contract and did get triggered.

Well low and behold, in 2007 Peters becomes a Pro Bowl LT.

In january 2008, Parker approaches the Bills about the promised increase. However, the new sheriff in town is flexing his muscles and reneges on the offer with promises to pay next year - since he has 3 years left.

Flabbergasted with this turn of events and the total lack of respect for the Bills best player, Peters and Parker weigh their options and decide to skip the OTA to see how events unfold.

Instead of any discussions with Parker, the Bills extend marginal starters and backups to more money than Peters is making.

After reviewing the Bills options at LT and the total disregard for Peters skills - they make the tough decision to hold out from camp.

far fetched - maybe

even more far fetched is the story the Bills are spinning that they have no idea why Peters is not at camp.

You're pretty good at coming up with what-if's. How about the most likely scenario? Peters and his agent are a**holes?

Well, there's a silver lining -- depth on the o-line will improve as his backup gets more reps. Peters will likely return at some point during the first 4 games and resume his dominance at the position and his backup will also be better prepared to help the team going forward. Always good to develop depth on o-line.

Well...The X-Files are back after all... ;)

The Bills know what Peters wants...The Bills want Peters to show up and fulfill his contracted committment while they work out a better deal that is fair for both sides...The Bills want this because it's good for the Team...Now, I will say it's Brandon's Job to make that crystal clear to Peter's Agent on almost a daily basis...And I do wonder whether or not that has been made crystal clear this Off Season...Regardless, if that is The Bills stance, and it has been all along, Peters Agent is giving him piss poor advice...Think about it this way...Check out His record...In this situation, Drew Rousenhaus would have Peters Report and He'd be in Buffalo Camping out on the steps at OBD to work out that new deal...

I don't believe for one second that The Bills are trying to get out on the cheap with their Pro Bowl LT...Not after they paid Doc what they paid him...They do however want every single Player on board so-to-speak...That is why the line is being drawn here...And I think it's a perfectly fair line in this case...Come in, Play and Practice with your Teammates, and We will talk the same way We do with #83's Agent every day...We will get something done...

Sit at Home and well...We just can't negotiate under those circumstances because it sets a precedence we are unwilling to set...And that's that...

Not so simple. Peters did take a bonus and re-sign because he was probably playing for the NFL minimum, or close to it. In this instance, the Bills had all the leverage.

Now, the tables have turned. You have a probowl LT making less than Dockery, let alone Fowler who is average at best. Any sane person can see the inequity of this equation. Can you? Yes or no?

If the contract he signed was around or under $1m/yr I could see it. But at $3.5m there's no reason for him not to report and have his TWO agents get with Brandon and begin to deal. Granted he made the Pro Bowl, but he got hurt at the end of the season and he hasn't spoken at all to the Bills. Peters should get into camp. If he's one of the three "key" links (him, Stroud, Edwards) I think the players are only going to keep saying "he's only being a businessman" for so long.

Of all the crocks of schitt you've served, this one is the smelliest. First of all, the Bills aren't saying they don't know why Peters is not at camp -- they're implying they will address things once Peters shows he is committed to the team by showing up.

The other fantasyland story you've concocted? Honestly, man, you must have some good stuff you're smoking/drinking.

OOORRRRR......

maybe he's dead and that's why no one has heard from him. He probably went hiking and fell off a cliff into a deep ravine and after a few weeks of living off the berries around him as he lay there with 2 broken legs a mountain lion came by and ate him.

sure they might - but at the moment they are spinning the story as if they are in the dark

http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=6245

That's because contact with their Pro Bowl left tackle has been virtually non-existent the entire offseason.

"To be very honest with you it's been a road map of silence to date," said Bills COO Russ Brandon of the organization's contact with Peters.

O f course, he left out the small bit of info that they informed Peters in January they would not re-do his deal.

At THAT point, he had not missed any OTAs.

"To be very honest with you it's been a road map of silence to date," said Bills COO Russ Brandon of the organization's contact with Peters.

You conveniently left out the rest of Brandon's comments: "He hasn't been here to date," Brandon said, "and it's difficult to have discussions with someone who's not here and has elected to not participate in what we're trying to do."

Easy to twist things when you don't include the entire quote, isn't it? Brandon also conceded the Bills HAVE spoken with Peters' agent, but only briefly because they were focused on signing Hardy. Once again, I must question the judgment of someone who believes the Bills should be banging down Peters' door to give him more money when he has chosen to ignore all team activities since the end of the season.

Link? I haven't read that anywhere. Sounds like you're making schitt up again.

My big question to his agent would be "Why the hell did you sign the deal in 2006?" The answer would be 5 years, 17.5 million with an 8 million dollar bonus. That was good enough TWO years ago, he took the money and he should live with it. God forbid he has to live on that pittance for 3 more years. How he will feed his family is beyond me. If he wanted more, he should have waited. I could see if it was the last year of the contract. I can even see the point the Bills paid other OL more money. Fine, show up, play to the contract you took and the Bills will take care of you next year. I'd play hardball with him if I were Bills management. Not only is he signed for three more years, the Bills can franchise him for two years after that. Go ahead and sit out and the Bills still have him for 5 more years if they want. Better yet, he should quit altogether and he can go make $17.5 over the next 5 years in whatever field he has his College Degree in. Basket Maker pays big bucks these days. He is just trying to take advantage of the fact that the Bills may be playoff contenders this year with him at LT. This whole thing sucks big time. Just another greedy athlete putting himself ahead of the team.

You mean the same #83 that STILL has no new contract????

Maybe THAT'S why Peters is basically telling them to go screw themselves!

It's crazy that they have not renegotiated Evans' contract yet. This team will never be good again because they only care about paying the overrated high motor guys. What a stupid front office. It's starting to rival their coaching staff. This thing WILL get ugly, count on it cheap bastards.

maybe they signed the deal in 2006 because the Bills (Marv Levy) asked them to since they did not want Peters to become a free agent the next year as a LT, with the understanding he would be taken care of if he was successful as a LT.

The Bills gave them a limited $1 mil escalator for the switch to left tackle to show their good faith but also to support the re-do since the $1mil would not be enough to support real LT money.

In January 2008, the Bills (Brandon) informed Peters they would not honor Marv's (he was senile at the time) Levy's commitement to redo the contract even though Peters is a pro-bowl LT who is the 3th highest paid OL on the team.

I'd like to see Peters get paid as well. And he will.

But if he's willing to sit the first 10 games and screw his teammates in the process, then fu*k him!

Bills' balls in a vice? Hardly.

GO BILLS!!!

It's a tough situation. On one hand he deserves it. On the other he did sign a contract. But when you factor in all the variables including that his career has been somewhat of a progression in the transition to LT and then finally very good LT, they need to do something.

What rubs some of us fans the wrong way is the way the team throws money around for players that don't put up a fraction of what Peters does and often as backups too, but then for the very few key players that really make this team worth a damn every fall, for half of them they treat their contracts like an afterthought. I mean it really makes you scratch your head and wonder if the parents of most of the people in our front office used to feed them lead based paint chips for breakfast in a bowl with milk like cereal.

By the way, that first 10 comment I think is immaterial. He's not a FA at the end of the season.

And yeah, I do think he has their head in a vice. If they don't redo his contract after doing the likes of Williams and Butler, they will look like the bunch of incompetent boobs that they are. Otherwise they stand to lose far more than Peters.

Posted
Hardly. The Bills hold ALL the cards. How much value will Peters have after 3 years of not playing? I'll take my chances without Peters before I cave in to extortion which is what this is.

PTR

They do huh? How much value does the offense hold without Peters?

I know, I know, Chambers is stepping up. Right, I'll put that second on my priority list after buying stock in Countrywide.
