He's starting a new gig at espn.com as the AFC East beat reporter and is in town, so he'll join me in studio. We'll take calls at 716-783-9325.

Is he leaving the News? He was one of the good ones in that pit of Sullivans and Gleasons.

If I'm not mistaken, he left the News a while back to go work at a paper in Miami.

I love how the talented BN writers go on to bigger and better things, and guys like....oh, why even bother. :D

From everything I've heard, The News is a great place to work compared to most of the chain newspapers. (For example, the aforementioned PBPost is currently in the process of whacking between 25-40 percent of the newsroom staff.) So if someone like Graham wants an NFL beat, he either waits out Gaughan and Wilson -- which could take a long, long time, since neither is anywhere near retirement age -- or packs his bags and moves on.

Case in point: Keith McShea's 2007 Daytona recap garnered him a top-10 mention in the APSE national writing awards, but he still covers mostly preps for The News. I have no doubt he could work a bigger beat somewhere else, but with more shops firing than hiring these days, he might be better off staying put and keeping a steady paycheck.

Just my opinion ...
