At the end, Gordon says to Batman that Dent was responsible for 5 deaths, 2 of which were cops. Who was there other than Wertz, Maroni's driver, and presumably Maroni in that crash? He didn't kill Ramirez. He definitely killed Ramirez. Who the 5th person was, I don't recall, although I vaguely remember him killing someone on the street, but I could be mistaken. WellDressed Posted July 28, 2008 Share Posted July 28, 2008 No. Most people would say Return of the King is the best of that trilogy, but I like Fellowship the best because the cast is still (relatively) small and the fight scene at the end is pretty personal (i.e. it isn't 10,000 CGI guys fighting 20,000 other CGI guys; it's the Fellowship fighting a bunch of orcs). And it will be a travesty if Heath Ledger doesn't win an Oscar. In comparison Jack Nicholson was a goof. Ledger is the soul of the Joker. PTR Finally got to see it Tuesday. Loved it. Couple thoughts (and since the movie has been out for a few weeks now, I'm not masking anything in hopes of hiding any "spoilers." If you haven't seen it, then read on at your own risk, although my comments here are generic enough that they don't really give anything away): -- Maggie Gyllenhall/Rachel Dawes was uninspiring throughout the movie. The role was bleh, and the actress is incredibly plain looking. I've Googled her to see if there were any pictures of her anywhere in which she looks attractive, but I've come up with nothing. I don't need a supermodel ADA, but she's about as attractive as Kirsten "Snaggletooth" Dunst. I would have much rather seen Mrs. Xenu back as Rachel. -- Ledger's Joker was amazing. I can't even express how good I thought his performance was, and I really like that he didn't turn into a whiny beyotch at the end of the movie like Nicholson's Joker did. He was calm, cool, collected and defiant right to the end. -- I liked that they didn't go right back to the BatCave and Wayne Manor like nothing happened at the end of Begins. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying ti was horrible, or even bad, it was good, but I didn't find it to be the great film that will forever be a part of movie history like everyone is making it sound like. Ledgers joker was good, he played a great psychopath, but I wouldn't be handing over an Oscar to him for it unless it was a really poor year for supporting actors. I really thought that the Twoface storey line was too quick, I thought they would set it up for him to be the main villan in the next one, and not just kill him off so quickly AS for the other Batman movies, you have to take them for what they were, adaptations of a popular comic book. They weren't supposed to be so dark, they were supposed to be intended for a younger audience that would be reading comic books regularly. They couldn't keep doing those anymore because the public doesn't want that anymore, they want dark movies like this now. BillsWatch Posted August 4, 2008 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I have avoided the reviews and as much of the previews as I can the last month. I just saw it Sunday and was amazed how much movie they put in it which is why partly I think it is such a big seller. If they included an extra scene at end after credits I think it would have boosted sales even more. I did not know that they were going to turn Dent into Two Face in this movie and if asked "When?" I would have said probably at the end but he became a major part of the end story. The makeup on Two Face was shocking and I figure it had to be CGI since it did not look like the rubbery Tommy Lee Jones face. Using Jim Gordon's son as a focal point was interesting since he never had one in the comic hence was vulnerable to being killed. Like the love scene after they fall and land on the car.. and the joker is still chilling up in Bruce's penthouse?? Wtf?? Or when they are transporting harvet dent.. and .. no escort cops on motorcycles? What? That would never ever happen. Real cops would have spotted that firetruck miles in advance. Or the pointless blowing up of a hospital. Not only was it useless and did not help the plot at all, but was 100% unbelievable that anyone could load up that many explosives in a hospital (24hr facility) without anyone noticing (same deal with the ferry's .. sort of) ... plus just the never ending bag of tricks up the jokers sleave.. it just started to get rediculous after a point. Ok and here is one thing. They started the movie off with the joker killing his own henchmen. Who kills their own henchmen for no reason? Sorry.. but to be a stong crime syndicate you need to breed loyalty. You can't just kill off your own men like that.. you won't have any men.. and then the joker would just be a lonely crazy guy at that point. Joker's career really should have ended right there. And that pencil scene.. wtf? You know in real life people would just be pulling out guns right off and pointing them at the guy. Why even bother getting close to him? arg. drove me nuts with plot holes. and I'm not even good at spotting that stuff. The over-arching theme to the movie is that the joker is creating chaos to push everybody over the edge and reveal their baser, corruptible side, which he is convinced everybody has. Perhaps you can read into his drive a desire to vindicate his own 'craziness'. If you analyze closely enough, perhaps you can dig up some illogical scenes but I won't label them plot holes (which I consider to be obvious gaffes). To me, the director provided enough throughout the movie to earn a suspension of disbelief and hence I enjoyed the movie. Unlike Indy 4 which was ridiculous. While I understand that you did not like the movie, your opening statement 'if this is the best Hollywood has to offer ....' is a bit over the top to me. That is the statement which caused me to question your post. If you are looking for entertainment, you can do far far worse at the movies before proclaiming that Hollywood needs to start from scratch. Because all of the cops thought they were transporting batman to jail, and that the joker was going to let up because he had his demands met. .. you know.. why else would they yell out and demand "No more dead cops" So the comic book movie wasn't realistic enough? I feel that the lengths at which they were asking me to suspend my beliefs in the laws of physics (and the intelligence of minor characters) were a bit to great for me to be able to think of the whole movie as anything but silly.
