blzrul
Awright, another windfall for his oil-drilling buddies! Sure, in about 10 years it will all kick in and the price of gas will drop, right? Sure. Uh huh. The funny thing is most people realize this isn't going to help.

The oil companies make less profit (by %) than most successful companies. And most of their profit is from overseas.

Best argument I heard against drilling, was that when the Middle East and South America was all tapped out and irrelevant, then we would start to drill our own...being one of the few countries that had any left. Do we start drilling domestically before or after we give them all of our wealth and treasure? It's not really their fault though. They've got the crack and we're addicted. Endzone Animal
"We need to take action now to expand domestic oil production," Bush said, adding later: "With this action, the executive branch's restrictions on this exploration have been cleared away. This means that the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is action from the U.S. Congress." Smartest words I've heard from Bush in a long time. The drilling needs to begin yesterday, as does the building of our new refineries.

Probably this is more a long term solution than a short term or temporary fix, but in the short term it will ease speculator fears on US supply futures, which should lead to at least some relief at the pump. Something does need to happen no doubt. And like you said this may be the way for long term help. However, someone has to work on the short term. Another thing, wouldn't it be nice to see ships lining up at U.S. docks filling up on oil. May be a nice boost to the economy.
elegantelliotoffen
Didn't Bush say we were "addicted to oil" last year? So his solution to an oil addiction is to............get more oil??????

elegantelliotoffen
Shouldn't the oil companies drill on the millions of acres of land they already have drilling permits for? If I didn't know any better I'd say that the oil companies like having 4$ per gallon gas, but that's impossible.............
