President Bush Lifts Executive Ban on Offshore Drilling

Recommended Posts

Ah yes, playing election year politics with our energy 'policy'. I'm sure the Most Ethical Congress in HistoryTMwill respond with equal stupidity.

Go Government!

You mean like tapping the Strategic Reserves? I mean really, it's just sitting there doing nothing.

Awright, another windfall for his oil-drilling buddies! Sure, in about 10 years it will all kick in and the price of gas will drop, right? Sure. Uh huh.

The funny thing is most people realize this isn't going to help.

Funny thing is most dims care more about their party and not about the well being of the country.

The oil companies make less profit (by %) than most successful companies. And most of their profit is from overseas.

Best argument I heard against drilling, was that when the Middle East and South America was all tapped out and irrelevant, then we would start to drill our own...being one of the few countries that had any left.

Isn't that because everything goes towards investing in the future?

Do we start drilling domestically before or after we give them all of our wealth and treasure? It's not really their fault though. They've got the crack and we're addicted.

"We need to take action now to expand domestic oil production," Bush said, adding later: "With this action, the executive branch's restrictions on this exploration have been cleared away. This means that the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is action from the U.S. Congress."

Smartest words I've heard from Bush in a long time. The drilling needs to begin yesterday, as does the building of our new refineries.

I'd like to know how this will relate to the current gas prices.

Probably this is more a long term solution than a short term or temporary fix, but in the short term it will ease speculator fears on US supply futures, which should lead to at least some relief at the pump.

Something does need to happen no doubt. And like you said this may be the way for long term help. However, someone has to work on the short term.

Another thing, wouldn't it be nice to see ships lining up at U.S. docks filling up on oil. May be a nice boost to the economy.

Didn't Bush say we were "addicted to oil" last year? So his solution to an oil addiction is to............get more oil??????

 It is an election year and if Congress tosses this aside he instantly makes them look bad. Win, win for Georgie-boy

And here is the result of Bush lifting the Presidential ban on offshore drilling...crude prices plummet. It really isn't that complicated...

And in a couple days Iran will say something stupid or a report will be leaked about Israel's planned strike on Iran (or both) and oil will be over $150 a barrel

Actually, the collapse and bailout of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac will so devalue the dollar that prices will rise as we go into inflation overdrive.
