SD Jarhead
Air purifiers are a waste of money, at least the kind that are floor standing or in a movable box. If you're interested in filtering your air call your Heating and Air Conditioning guy. They have systems that attach to your furnace/AC and work with the blower motor. The result is that they circulate the air in the entire house, not just the room the unit is operating in. There are different technologies out there from filters to UV light, but your AC guy can fill you in on what options they offer. They are ~$1000 for a good unit though... drnykterstein
I have this thing.. http://www.alpineairproducts.com/?action=P...s&Product=4 It's expensive as all get out, but it is amazing. As far as I know, it's the highest quality air purifier out there. Well worth the money, if you value your long term health.

The electrostatic units have fallen out of favor - evidently their efficiency drops quickly after cleaning the grids. The HEPA units are better, albeit at a large expense for the filter media. The house I bought several years back had an electrostatic unit - but the power pack eventually failed ($400 repair). The HVAC repairman suggested placing a filter in it instead. I buy the 3M red-wrapped product. It does a good job, noticeably reducing dust collection in the house - costs $10 per, and I replace then every 3 months as recommended.
