This Summer Season, June was a month that provided lots of laughs, now July rolls around bringing with it more action. Get ready for more big guns, big car chases, big explosions, & big effects.

One film has set itself up as one of the more anticipated movies of the Summer, maybe even the year, as for the 6th time the Caped Crusader returns to the big screen in "The Dark Knight". Director Christopher Nolan was given the task of starting the Batman franchise all over with 2005's Batman Begins. The end result was phenomenal. BB grossed over 200 million domestically, director Nolan and actor Christian Bale took giant steps from independent notoriety to the mainstream machine, and Warner Bros. got their most successful comic book franchise back in the spotlight. Now the spotlight shifts to the second outing of this "new" franchise. Most of the cast returns, Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, & Morgan Freeman. Maggie Gyllenhall replaces Katie Holmes, and Aaron Eckhart steps in as Harvey Dent. However the one casting that has had many people anticipating is Heath Ledger as The Joker. At first many fans were skeptical of Nolan's decision to cast Ledger, but early photo's of Ledger's creepy clown make-up and early trailers left all the doubts in the dust. Sadly Heath Ledger's tragic death in February has put a rather odd spotlight on this film.

Warner Bros. was left wondering how to promote the movie without trying to exploit Ledger's death. Also many moviegoers, who are not fans of Batman, are interested in seeing Ledger's performance, there are Oscar whispers going around for Ledger already.

Regardless, "The Dark Knight" looks to be an outstanding film.

Will Smith is back in his favorite month with "Hancock". This time "Mr. July" plays the titular character, a hard-living superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. He then forms a relationship with a PR professional in order to repair his image. Smith is a very bankable star, and he could very well have another huge hit on his hands. However, early test screenings of "Hancock" came away with people calling it average, also reshoots were done as recently as May, two not-so-good signs. So the big question is, will this be another Men In Black, or another Wild Wild West? Charlize Theron & Jason Bateman co-star.

America's favorite FBI Agents: Fox Mulder & Dana Scully, are back for their second big screen treatment, "The X-Files: I Want To Believe". It's been many years since we've seen Mulder & Scully chasing after the unknown. Which raises the big question: Are fans still eager to see another X-Files story? While the plot of this movie has been kept under wraps, we do know that it will not center around the show's alien mythology, which will come as a relief to some of the fans. Both David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson have expressed interest in doing other X-Files movies, let's see how this one does first.

Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, & director Guillermo Del Toro re-unite for "Hellboy II: The Golden Army". This time around, The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world from the rebellious creatures. The first Hellboy movie was a moderate Springtime hit, which left Sony underwhelmed and not that interested in going through with a franchise. Now after big dvd sales and Universal purchasing the rights, Hellboy is now in the Summer with a bigger budget, bigger expectations, and bigger action.

Special effects abound in "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D". On a quest to find out what happened to his missing brother, a scientist, his nephew and their mountain guide discover a fantastic and dangerous lost world in the center of the earth. People know this Jules Verne tale by heart, it's the new effects and 3-D filming that is the big draw for this one. Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, & Anita Briem star.

After everyone has digested all of the action this month, there is still room for laughter. This month's biggest laugher stars Will Ferrell & John C.Reilly in "Step Brothers". Two spoiled guys become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents get hitched.

Need I say more?

The anti-Summer crowd will probably be looking forward to "Mamma Mia!". The broadway hit musical-turned-movie stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski, & Julie Walters. It is the story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.

In "Space Chimps", Ham III, the grandson of the first chimp astronaut, is blasted off into space by an opportunity-seeking senator. Soon, the fun-loving chimp has to get serious about the mission at hand: Rid a far-away planet of their nefarious leader. Starring Andy Samberg, Stanley Tucci, Jeff Daniels, Patrick Warburton, & Cheryl Hines.

In "Diminished Capacity", A Chicago journalist suffering from memory loss takes leaves from his job and returns to his rural hometown, where he bonds with his Alzheimer's-impaired uncle Rollie and his old flame. Quickly a plan is hatched for the trio to head to a memorabilia convention in the city, where Rollie hopes to sell a rare baseball card that has gained the attention of local ne'er-do-wells intent on scheming the old man out of a potential fortune. Starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda, & Virginia Madsen.

In, "Meet Dave", Tiny aliens pilot a spacecraft that takes the form of a human, while the captain of the ship jeopardizes his crew and their mission to save their planet when he falls for beautiful earthling. Starring Eddie Murphy.

Thanx, Mark. Good, non-judgmental preview.

Being a sucker for dumb action flicks & Will Smith, I will see Hancock.

Being a huge X-Files fan will find me in the theater to believe yet again

TDK - where else would I rather be ?

Journey is a maybe depending on whether I have anything better to do that weekend (with the wife out of town).

Pass on Hellboy as I am not into that character.

Meet Dave is a definite pass. Murphy irritates me now, no matter what he does.

Your welcome Fan.

I do want to see Hancock, but I'm a bit skeptical with all of the so-so reviews.

I'm glad that X-Files is not going down the alien path. The alien mythology burned me out.

Dark Knight is going to be awesome.

I'm on the fence with Journey, it looks neat, but is it all effects?

I can wait for Hellboy II, but I have to admit that this one looks to be more exciting.

Agree with you on Murphy, his schtick just does'nt fly anymore.
