Sitting Front Row for Ringo on Friday

Recommended Posts

Checking one off of the bucket list this week as I see my first ever concert from the front row. It's Ringo Starr and his All-Star band at the Fallsview Casino in NF, Ontario.

Band members are Billy Squier, Edgar Winter and Gary Wright (among others).

Has anyone ever sat front row at a show? Any tips on what to do? Is a camera appropriate that close?

(Gringo - I'll say Hi for you)

I've been to many concerts within the first 10 rows, never front row. Cameras are usually okay, but use the opening act, if there is one, to try different settings with no flash. And maybe even ask some of the press photo people for suggestions, since you'll be close enough to talk to them before the concert starts.

EDIT: Here's pictures from REM in Toronto that my sister took, we were about 7 rows back, and she was using an 8 Megapixel Kodak. Not sure on the exact model.

Nice pictures of REM.

As for the show- 7 rows out I would either shoot Aperture priority or set my camera to manual, 2.8 aperture and ISO fast enough to shoot faster shutter speed. The stage will be lit up good- you probably do not need much ISO(or could leave that to auto)

You may be surprised how bad the show sounds in the front row. You are in that nether world between the house mix and the stage monitors. Front row seats also come with a lot of pressure. You better look like you are loving the show because the artist can see you. I actually got called out by Grace Slick at a show in the old Aud for looking like I was watching TV. (I was in the 2nd row and sorry Grace, the Starship weren't that good.) I sat in the front row for Blondie a few years back and Debbie Harry wore a rubber skirt. All I saw was sweat pouring from her legs...eww. I also sat in the front row for Steve Winwood at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. Awesome show.

If anyone in Ringo's band is in a rubber skirt, I'm asking for a refund.

I think getting called out by Grace Slick is a badge of honor.

I have been front row center for the Beach Boys to The Dead and many bands in between. I prefer 5 rows back. Your not looking up all night and you get the house sound.
