BillsWatch Posted May 27, 2008 Share Posted May 27, 2008 http://www.fcps.edu/index.htmFairfax County Public Schools, my daughter's school system and wife's employer, is taking two leftover unused "snow" days in June off to reduce amount of fuel used by school buses. Some winters up here, schools use up all their snow days and have to steal some from already planned spring vacation, or make the school year longer in June. Roads are not designed for the traffic and when snow or even worse ice comes roads are unpassible in some areas. They are also dangerous for kids who need to walk a mile to elementary schools and a mile and a half for high schools. They have even been cases when there have been times when they need to take away teacher workdays, holidays and vacations not just for snow but hurricanes and power outages. Schools plan so many bad weather days and if not used kids get an extra day off. My kids have been getting these forever (or in the case of a bad year they lose vacation days).
