http://www.fcps.edu/index.htmFairfax County Public Schools, my daughter's school system and wife's employer, is taking two leftover unused "snow" days in June off to reduce amount of fuel used by school buses.

While I understand saving money since school had not planned on budgeting for so much school but I am wondering if school is sending wrong message to students who at end of year would be punished if they went on vacation early even if "nothing" was going to be taught.

Look at it the other way. Some winters up here, schools use up all their snow days and have to steal some from already planned spring vacation, or make the school year longer in June. Parents don't like this since it cuts into already planned trips.

Hey, what can I say? Fuel costs gotta be hitting the cops hard too?... Eveybody should slow down and reduce their own fuel consumption and watch them hit the phone banks for more money!

Eff 'em... Most Americans voted for this mess!

That should be the big question... What message is that sending to the children?

Fuel consumption dropped at an all time record rate, while prices still go through the roof. Interesting.

Go to the PPP thread about futures contracts... It is interesting.

I am like Willy Wonka when Augustus is stuck in the pipe:

"The suspense is killing me!"

Really... I can't wait for the carnage to play out!

They have designated "snow days" in Virginia?

Yep and they need it. Roads are not designed for the traffic and when snow or even worse ice comes roads are unpassible in some areas. They are also dangerous for kids who need to walk a mile to elementary schools and a mile and a half for high schools. They have even been cases when there have been times when they need to take away teacher workdays, holidays and vacations not just for snow but hurricanes and power outages.

Fairly common I think. Schools plan so many bad weather days and if not used kids get an extra day off. My kids have been getting these forever (or in the case of a bad year they lose vacation days). Your school system simply decided to play the fuel cost card.

guess it would just be easier then if they called them "Bad Weather" Days if everything is included (huricanes/power outages/etc)

Govt's will be working even harder with your tax dollars :(:( ... Cook county I hear is parking all their trucks every other Friday... Can't leave the yard, no mowing highways, patching roads, etc... etc... Just hanging around the yard doing what not...:lol::thumbsup:

As long as the kids get their assignments and do the homework, what difference does it make?

That nothing is more important than the teachers union that refuses to work the extra two days.
