H2o
Somebody said they went to a psychic or a palm reader or something like that and the woman gave a prediction on the winner of the Super Bowl. She said she "saw a team in red, blue, and white celebrating". The Giants ended up winning the SB and that was their team colors. Just wondering who it was who posted that and I wanted to know what you thought about it.

She was, IMO, banking on the Pets* winning the SB and decided to cover her bases in case that didn't happen.

If you are suggesting their helmet thats quite the stretch lol

If you are suggesting their helmet thats quite the stretch lol If they had won the SB she would have said that's what she saw. I'm just pointing out that if you make things vague enough there are a lot of ways to interpret it. If the Bears had won she'd say she the blood on a uniform that she thought was navy blue. I'd give her a lot more credit if she had added that it will be a Cinderella team. These people don't make their money by giving out hard information. Are their real psychics? Yes, but they don't prostitute themselves like this woman for the most part.
Pete
My friend used to date a girl who he said was a psychic. I never met her(they lived out of state) but one time he put her on the phone with me and we spoke for over an hour- and she gave very detailed background on my life and my family. It was crazy- not abstract at all, but incredibly specific. For example- she said "you love to read, mostly non-fiction- and you recently read a book on chaos theory"- which I did. Who the hell reads a book on chaos theory, besides myself? She spoke at great length about my family- and was spot on. I quizzed my friend and he swears that he told her nothing of my background. I am a believer now

Steely Dan
Interesting. My guess has always been that there are some people out there who have the ability, but double the amount of farses. I'd say more like 97% fake. I've watched psychic detectives on tru tv and it's fascinating how close some of these predictions come. I've seen a few cops interviewed who said they thought that whoever suggested they consult a psychic was nuts but after working with one he was awed by it. Some of them won't take money for their services and those are the people I most believe when they back it up with results. The Amazing Randi will go to a school and ask the kids in a class what astrological sign they are and then hand them a personality overview. After they've all read them he'll ask them how many think it describes them almost perfectly. Just about every time all the kids raise their hands. He then has them pass it to the kid next to them and they find out they all received the same writeup. While that's astrology the point is the same. If you make something vague enough it comes true. I'm predicting the Bills will win more than two games by three points or less this year. I'm not gonna say whether I'm including the pre-season until the last game this year or until the Bills win two games by three points or less. Steely Dan
One more thing. Penn & Teller point out that with so called "faith" or "holistic" healers if you don't get better they'll say you didn't get there fast enough. If it stays the same they'll point out it's not getting worse and if gets better they'll take the credit. Basically those are the only three things that can happen with an illness. You can make the same argument for scientific methods but at least they have some testing behind them to prove their efficacy.

Dwight Drane
Really what these guys do is Profile. If you can see someone, you have a good idea about many things. If you can get a reaction, then you can work with that as well. One of the things I like to do is go through the yearbook of a friend or family member, then start spouting out facts about everyone as I page through. You can tell a lot about a person through their eyes and their smile.

I know of a friend who was hooked on to a psychic who made a lot of money off of her over a 2 year period (last I was in touch with her). Hearing my friend's description of what they used to talk about convinced me that the psychic was a combination of a very good observer, mind reader conversationalist (read: bull$hitter) and scam artist. berndogg
My girlfriend is into all that psychic reading BS. Every time she's gone to one I give her a specific game and tell her to ask the psychic who's gonna cover the spread. She's never come through. Basically, any psychic that isn't making millions in vegas is full of bs.

Gene Frenkle
Are their real psychics? Yes, but they don't prostitute themselves like this woman for the most part. I don't feel compelled to post all that much anymore, but you need to mix in some critical thinking, my friend. Are there real psychics? No. http://www.randi.org/joom/challenge-info.html All this paranormal stuff cracks me up. Make no mistake, people are stupid - don't let yourself be a sucker! Steely Dan
I see.... a team... in Maroon.. and.. and Salmon... a blend of lime green... and... Gray? and a tuna can. My girlfriend is into all that psychic reading BS. Every time she's gone to one I give her a specific game and tell her to ask the psychic who's gonna cover the spread. She's never come through. Basically, any psychic that isn't making millions in vegas is full of bs. Real, psychic ability doesn't work that way. I doubt she's a real psychic and here's a better way to test her. (This was done on a tv show I saw.) They had the same guy visit with four different psychics who were brought into the studio. They were told that they would grab a guy off the street and ask if he wanted a free reading. They dressed the same actor differently for each psychic. The first dressed like a successful business man, the second like a middle class family man, the third as a guy down on his luck and I can't remember the fourth. Each psychic determined their reading based on how he was dressed and some questions they asked him. The successful businessman got advice stating that a big business deal would be coming his way and to look at it very skeptically or some such nonsense. The middle class guy was told something about his family good or bad I can't remember but it was really vague. The down on his luck guy was told that a good job offer would soon be coming his way. Not one said "You're an actor hired by the show to trick me." I went to a psychic just the other day. I knocked on the door and when I heard "Who is it?" in response to my knock, I left. I quoted the Amazing Randi above but he's not always right. You need to watch a show about police who use psychics. I would say about 99% of the people who claim to be psychic aren't. There really are psychic people in the world you need to open your mind to it. The people I believe are psychic have images that come to mind but don't have a concrete idea of what they mean. I saw one show where a psychic was called in to help locate a missing teenager and she took the police to a dirt road's end. About 200 yards away was a street of houses and when they filmed to show where she had taken them the teenager was in the last house on the street closest to the end of the dirt road. She couldn't tell them any more than the dirt road thing and the police never went door to door on the street asking questions but when the teenager was found they were in that house being held against their will. The cops are the main people interviewed for these shows. Another one had a psychic stating that when the victim was found it would be in concrete and she saw a foot. When they found the body it was buried in concrete except for one foot sticking out. Another psychic was able to give the police enough information about the criminal that it confirmed they were on the right track with one suspect and they were eventually able to prove he did it and get a conviction. It's a very interesting ability. The reason psychics can't predict SB's or other things is that their gift doesn't work that way. They only get vague images that can help, someone, like the police if the client can tie the images together.
