ExiledInIllinois Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Just set up a webcamera. I am hoping the Corps sanctions it here... They do for Lock(s) 15 (they have a aux chamber) on the MS (Quad Cities, Arensal-- Rock Island)... Note the link(s) below... That lock(s) is not half as fun, way less pleasure boats easily... Here we are at least 20-30,000 more per year... Slightly more commercial loads and tonnage (not empty barges though) there on the Upper Mississippi than here in South Chicago (we tend to do a lot of empty barges being the first lock on the Illinois WaterWay)... EagleCam1 RiverCam2 We are instore for another one... Sunny and the wind is 21 out of the NNW (pushing the water right almost the whole fetch of Lake Michigan)... Only 52 degrees out though, there will be "takers" though trying to head west on the lake towards Chicago's various harbors... Heading east into Hammond, those vassels can stay under (south) the breakwater for cover... The lull before the impending doom is now while I wait! This is also "walker" season... Signs every 50 feet saying "Do Not Get Off Your Boat." People don't read signs!
ExiledInIllinois Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Oh... Notice the transportation structure of Rock Island and Lock(s) 15... It is one of the few places where you can be on a boat and have a car, train, and plane above you! Also, the Gov't bridge (turntable span) I think is the area where Abe Lincoln won his first case as an attorney for the railroads against the ferry business (which allowed themto span the river with a bridge)...
