I remember the smell of fresh bread permeating the air of Super Duper every time we walked in there. My aunt used to take me there for lunch at the little restaurant counter inside when I was a kid. Good times!
KD in CA
Wegmans is the greatest chain grocery store in the world. Only if you don't count Stew Leonard's as a chain. I think there are only 4 of them.

MattyT
Only if you don't count Stew Leonard's as a chain. I think there are only 4 of them. My buddy in Danbury keeps trying to tell me how great Stew Leonard's is. He makes it sound like part grocery store/part theme park.
stuckincincy
Not in Erie, @ least when I grew up. Wasn't Loblaws and Bells owned by the same company? Loblaws is a Canadian company. They changed their WNY store names to "Food Arena" in the late '60's. S&H Green Stamps was their sales shtick. AFAIK, the Bell's chain arose out of the old I.G.A. (Independent Grocer's Association). Red Stamps IIRC - maybe Plaid Stamps. I forget which. Rockpile knows a lot about the WNY food biz...perhaps he will chime in.
