NASA to Announce Success of Long Galactic Hunt

WASHINGTON -- NASA has scheduled a media teleconference Wednesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. EDT, to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years. This finding was made by combining data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory with ground-based observations.

Linkage, scroll down a little.

first off, LOL at that.

but for real, this announcement, along with THIS ANNOUNCEMENT from the vatican, makes me think that some big news may be coming...

did NASA find life on another planet? the vatican announcement would be perfect damage control.

Did they say that the aliens weren't created in God's image?

they didnt say, but im sure a Missionary trip is already in the works to convert them all to Christ.

LOL, i was about to make that joke too. Aliens and dinosaurs, that tricky Christ!

I bet The Creation Museum is working on a new outer space diorama as we speak. Maybe the aliens will be wearing saddles. They will obviously be subservient to mankind.

dont you find it a little weird (even for the church) to just come out with this out of no where?

Actually, that doesn't come out of nowhere. It is straight from the middle ages. The idea that God is fontalis plentidudo - fountain of plenty - an infinite creation from an infinite Creator - has long had cosmic implications. The theological concept probably led Newton and Leibniz to their calculus.

But as far as the Church, there is really no theological problem with an infinite and life-filled universe.

It's located in my neck of the woods. When it opened, there were hateful protesters cursing people for exercising their beliefs.

How nice...

Why would this have anything to do with aliens? Based on the bio of the Harvard researcher, it seems like this is some sort of black hole discovery.

because its more interesting to talk about on a message board?

jeez, someones always gotta be the "serious one"

There's a book by Maria Doria Russell called The Sparrow (or maybe The Sparrow is the sequel book) that is exactly this premise. Interesting piece of science fiction.
