yall Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 My wife wants me to make copies of her favorite exercise DVD's so that she can have a set in the living room and in the basement as she works out in both locations. I was hoping someone knew of a good freeware package that could burn usuable copies. I can do this either on a Mac or PC platform. Thanks in advance. And thanks for sparing me the "if she wants to work out, what is wrong with walking up and down the stairs to get the DVD's?". I've already gone down that path...
Fezmid Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 DVD Decrypter will rip the CSS from the disk so you can burn the resulting files to a blank. It can also be used to compress the video since most consumer DVDs are ~9G (dual layer), and most blank DVD-R/+R disks are only 4.5G (single layer). They were sent a cease and desist a year or two ago, so I don't think ti's being actively developed, but I'm sure there are old copies floating around. Keep in mind that using the software violates the (lame) DMCA act and technically makes you a criminal. Yes, even if you're only using it to backup something you already own. That's why it's lame. Doom9.com is the definitive site with tons of info as well. They might list a better program: http://www.doom9.org/

Chilly Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 http://www.dvdshrink.org/ DVD Shrink is still actively being developed (and has support for DVDs that DVD Decrypter can no longer remove the encryption from). It also will shrink the DVDs to a single layer.
